My cousin and I just flew from Moncton to Toronto on a Dash8. We were in row 17 and found it to be incredibly noisy. Oddly enough, it was the noisiest during cruise, not during the climb. The noise seemed to be a combination of prop noise and cabin vibration. The thing rattled like a box of saw blades. My iphone decibel app measured it around 94 dB.
She flew back to Moncton a few days ago and was in row 3. I have heard that the further back you go on a turboprop, the quieter it gets, so I expected her to be complaining big time about the noise. But to my surprise, she said the ride back was much quieter.
So what gives ? Does the rule about being further back only kick in after row 5 ? Are the first few rows the quietest ? I'm also returning in a few days and want to know where to sit.
Question about cabin noise in Dash 8

Re: Question about cabin noise in Dash 8
Could be as simple as the Active Noise and Vibration Suppression System (NVS) being mel-ed ...
In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"
