Ontario float bases

Post by Bede »

I need to ferry a floatplane from Kitchener to Thunder Bay. Other than Bar River, does anyone have any info where else that I could stop and pick up Avgas?

There is a float plane base around Orillia, on lake St-John (I think). It is close to the casino and there is also an airport.

Wawa has a couple of float bases. Geraldton has fuel. You land on Hutchison Lk beside the airport and they will bring the bowser and top you up.

I’ve done that trip twice but from Gatineau. I stoped at azilda(Sudbury aviation). Then up to hawk junction just east of Wawa. Hawk air. Then to Gerlton.

https://www.hawkair.com

This is the website for the operation on Hawk Lake. I believe they still operate a piston beaver and C180 so should have avgas. Not sure on sales though.

I am pretty sure Forde Lake Air out of hornepayne will sell gas with prior notice. At least they did the past few years. Not sure if this will help for flight planning.

Air Dale is no longer operating, so that base in Wawa is not active. Similarly, NV7 (Partridge Point) is closed as well. Hawk Air in Wawa is your only option there.

If you're passing through the Sault area, the Bushplane should work, or PM me and I'll help you out.
