Started at 21, and unlike some of the posters on Avcanada I have never "not" made enough money working in the Aviation Indusrty. I too was an instructor in the beginning but I was an instrutor in demand so I had too much work and had to turn it down.
Flying around for me has been good.

Jobhunter,
I had over 4k hrs, switched to rotary, and spent a month hitching, busing, sleeping on couches and at bus stations with 60hrs in a helicopter. Turned down four, yes four, jobs in FW during that time. I got my first rotary job and the rest is history - if you look hard enough, the jobs are there.
Question is, what are you willing to do to get the job you want?

I wish I have the money to switch to rotary...
I'm looking hard, don't worry, but like I said in my other post, how much hours do i need to get to fly again.
Ok, I'm been a little bit picky , but after 3000 TT Hs I have the right.
Right now I'm looking for a turbine job as F/O or wathever .
I think i have enough piston time, time to change engines...but hey, maybe I'm asking too much ...

16/17 and the air cadets payed for my glider and private licence. $6000 in scholarships and 3 part time jobs and 1 full time summer job payed my way through Mount Royal finished before my 20th Birthday. Flown for 2 great companies so far. Always made enough to live and have loved every minute of it, even the year on the ramp in ZF.
