I don't like CNN, personally I detest their not-so-hidden agenda, but first thing that popped up on my Google search...
They're either great at Google adwords, or something is really afoot...

Thanks for the good words, I was still going to do my training no matter what, no more time to waste !Eric Janson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 7:12 pm rk1996
There will always be reasons not to do something.
In 30+ years in this Business I've seen it all. I've always had a job.
Even when 2 companies I worked for went bankrupt I had alternatives.
If you really want it - then go and do it.
But I've read so many stories about folks who did their training back in 2008's and saying that due to the crisis, they didn't find job, struggle to pay back their loans for the training and eventually got to find a work in a completely different domain. Hope the current good period will last a little longer though...

Keep in mind the pilots who trained during the worst years are the same ones who were hired first during our last waverk1996 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 5:16 pmThanks for the good words, I was still going to do my training no matter what, no more time to waste !Eric Janson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 7:12 pm rk1996

Not really. On the contrary, 200 hour cpls fresh from school have an advantage over 200 hour cpls that have been sitting at home for 4 years. Their skills will be sharper (in case of sim evals) and their knowledge will (should) be better, for those pesky ifr questions during some interviews.fish4life wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 6:18 pmKeep in mind the pilots who trained during the worst years are the same ones who were hired first during our last waverk1996 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 5:16 pmThanks for the good words, I was still going to do my training no matter what, no more time to waste !Eric Janson wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 7:12 pm rk1996

The best plan would be to take your time and do your training without getting into debt.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Are we entering another recession?
The short answer is NO.
I am an old guy now, who made the critical error of actually believing experts. Which put me in a worse place.
Had I trusted my gut, life would be somewhat better.
My gut tells me the world Is on a roll, so don't worry. I lived through multiple downturns, they are now a thing of the past.

Attempting to understand the world. I have not succeeded.

Last I looked I've been a pilot too for more than a decade -- but hey nice try!DonutHole wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:52 pmAlmost amusing as a financial guy talking about aviationrookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 6:07 am The fact that a group of pilots are so actively talking about a recession means to me, we probably aren't quite there yet.

What's your qualification to talk finance SugarDonut? What you read on Yahoo today?
Re: Are we entering another recession?
You can be a pilot as long as you have an IQ at least as high as your body temperature and you can do it for a living ( sort of a living. )
Try and be a successful financial adviser that far down on the IQ ladder.

Re: Are we entering another recession?
Markets are getting hammered again today.
Maybe Donut and his pals would like to offer advice to the viewers on what to do now.
I'm sure there would be interest today.

You're a private pilot, right? Then stick to discussions relating to private piloting.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 4:37 amLast I looked I've been a pilot too for more than a decade -- but hey nice try!DonutHole wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 8:52 pmAlmost amusing as a financial guy talking about aviationrookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 6:07 am The fact that a group of pilots are so actively talking about a recession means to me, we probably aren't quite there yet.

Actually I find his posts and his thoughts quite interesting. You're a private pilot, right? Then stick to discussions relating to private piloting.
Is there something inferior about private pilots?

Re: Are we entering another recession?
I'm a commercial rated pilot and use it personally.
I've commented lately on GA stuff, which you correctly guess is my arena, Bombardier, which I suspect I'm as entitled to comment on as much as you are, and a lot on a disturbing, at least to me, GA accident. I also fly a lot commercially, so as a pax I might throw in my oar occasionally from that perspective.
I don't see the problem.
Now how are you qualified to knowledgeably comment on anything regarding the economy or finance?

Re: Are we entering another recession?
The big proponent to market downturns is sizable negativity and uncertainty. President Trump provides plenty of both, as is starting to show with the partial government shutdown. Globally everyone is taking a hit due to the America first strategy. And by everyone, I include Americans. His base is too busy crowdfunding the wall to see what's happening to their 401k's.
As Canadians, for the most part, we are an even keeled population and our economy has lots of checks and balances to provide stability. As long as we are proactive and avoid the partisan rhetoric, we will weather the coming storms. The challenge is combating division and limiting its negative impact (think Brexit).
Not to sound like a fortune cookie, but Canada needs to come together and develop plans now, to move resources more effectively to markets outside of the U.S. We have to plan to limit our markets vulnerability to U.S influence, even if President Trump is removed, it's just smart thing to do. We failed to diversify when we had a chance and locked in long term on one 'stock'.

Just imagine the leader of a country trying to protect the safety of the citizens of the country from foreign intruders. His base is too busy crowdfunding the wall to see what's happening to their 401k's.
Fortunately we don't have to worry about our leader doing that.
Re: Are we entering another recession?
Sure, markets are getting hammered, but that's just noise. Profit taking in time for the end of the so-so year. Many traders thought 2018 would be like 2017 and got burnt. So they sell at a loss now, so that they can show a loss during tax time.
Things are still going very very well. Except for Canada. Exxon just cancelled a $25B LBG project in BC.

Crowdfund is going very well. Just passed the $10 million mark.C.W.E. wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 7:39 pmJust imagine the leader of a country trying to protect the safety of the citizens of the country from foreign intruders. His base is too busy crowdfunding the wall to see what's happening to their 401k's.

Also, the house just voted to approve 5.7B towards the Wall. Shows that they see how fast this wall is getting funded on GFM.
At one point this evening it went up 100k in 5 minutes.
