Remember to thank US ATC
Trumps government shutdown has left our american ATC without pay since dec 22. Think for a moment if they walked. Not sure about yall but I am truly thankful they haven't. So when talking to them, be sure to pass along a heart felt thank you.

A kind gesture.
A kind gesture.
They should all walk. Anyone not getting paid should stop working. I feel bad for a lot of people in the u.s. right now. What the political party in power is doing is tantamount to a child having a fit in the grocery aisle, it's not helping.

Same thing happened on Obamas watch over Obamacare. It’s not something new invented by the Don.
Re: Remember to thank US ATC
Yes it’s definitely a major issue with the way the government is funded. But the US is still one of only 3 backwards counties that doesn’t use the metric system. We’re gonna do our own way dammit

The way he's going about it is pretty new.JohnnyHotRocks wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 6:54 am Same thing happened on Obamas watch over Obamacare. It’s not something new invented by the Don.
Under Obama it was Congress and Senate fighting that caused the delay of funding and a shutdown. I don't recall what happened with Clinton in '95, but I think it was similar to Obama.
Now it's the Chief who's passed the buck (and convincingly so) onto 'crying' . and Nancy lol. The levels he stoops to are painfully low.

This. It’d be fixed in a day.

Under Obama it was the Republican controlled House refusing to raise the debt ceiling for the funds they already appropriated, because they know their base doesn’t know how government spending works.JohnnyHotRocks wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 6:54 am Same thing happened on Obamas watch over Obamacare. Under Trump, it’s he himself refusing to sign the spending bill into law, or the GOP majority Senate not passing it, because the House won’t appropriate funds for a medieval defence system—which also appeals to his base because they’ve never heard of tunnels, boats, airplanes, other countries, or legal or illegal passage through checkpoints.... and have conveniently forgot that Mexico was supposed to pay for it.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

I don’t think I can think of anything more socialist than a system that requires workers to work without pay in the service of others. The antipathy ingrained in the public to government workers is some what stunning since they can’t seem to differentiate between the people on the frontline who directly serve the public and the bureaucrats and politicians (who by the way are still paid) whose actions and policies hurt them. After all, I don’t see anyone not taking advantage of air travel in such times. Personally, if I was one of these workers I would be specifically denying service in a precise manner to those responsible. Perhaps if Air Force One got denied clearance into Mara Lago things might change.
I'm not sure what's more depressing: That everyone has a price, or how low the price always is.

Not aviation related but one of my pals just got back from a trip to California. He went to Joshua Tree national park and he says that without the rangers and attendants, people are sawing down the Joshua trees and littering the park with garbage. Presumeably this type of shit is happening everywhere down there. Their country is really reaping the rewards from their lack of ability to field any sensible candidates in their last election. I fear the same thing is happening up here and in Britain, too. I rarely make political comments but since it's a foreign country I'm making an exception here. What I heard about the Joshua Trees made me feel sad. A hats off to the Canadian controllers who are sending lunch-money and pizza to the towers and centres in the U.S.A. It's dedication to their profession that keeps them at their posts, I salute the American controllers. It takes some strength of character to continue to work under those circumstances.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

And so the "looting" begins eh? Terrible about those Joshua trees. People just can't be trusted

Fantastic gesture. I didn't even know the ATC guys were affected by the partial shutdown. Next time I'm flying down to Southern US, I'll make sure to thank them.

Don't forget to thank the TSA guys/gals as well for showing up to work. They're not getting paid either.
I’m still waiting for my white male privilege membership card. Must have gotten lost in the mail.

I thought the controllers were all contracted through Lockheed Martin and not government employees. Not sure how I came to that conclusion but there must be some lingering seed of truth to this. Or senility has dug in its claws and winning the battle.

What they should do is strike, but Reagan took that ability away in 81.

Re: Remember to thank US ATC
I figure a general strike by all the unpaid US Government employees would probably result in a collapse of the Trump Administration within about a week. Either Los Trumpistas would hang themselves or the pitchfork-armed peasantry would storm the Bastille. The Hitler-rant parodies would seem be in vogue again.

No one should give their skill away for free. Otherwise theyll end up like pilots, underpaid, bitter, and on Ice Pilots TV.
