How old is too old?
I'm not sure if this has come up for discussion but based on the current job prospects in the industry, if a guy/gal has all their requirements (hours, experience etc) for a regional job. How old is too old to start pursuing an airline career?......asking for a friend.
A friend who is mid to late 30s, currently in their second career flying in a 703 (previous career was not in aviation). Should they just stay put or take the pay cut and go regional?

Re: How old is too old?
I am not an expert by any means (late 20s, 703 captain) but I'd say go for it, mid to late 30s still leaves 25-30 years of flying. He could do pretty much whatever he wanted I would think.

Re: How old is too old?
Might not make it to mainline but regional for sure, which can still be a great place to end up
Re: How old is too old?
If you're mid to late 30's at a 703 with the requirements you can absolutely make it to "mainline" if that's your goal (Or your buddy's.
) But maybe a place like Transat or Sunwing might be a better choice. While the top end may not pay quite as much, it's pretty close, and the bottom of the rung flying at both of those is much better than the bottom end on most of AC's fleet.
However, If you're the type that likes living in "The North" you can have an awesome job making 100k and at home every single night staying at a good 703 like Thunder or Bearskin. Trust me, after 140 hotels a year and 280 shuttles, it's a better option than you might think compared to the regionals!

100k at Bearskin? Maybe in 20 years...
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I'm flying with FOs (westjet) my age (early 40s) that are in their second careers, and only started flying 5 years ago. You're fine. Given that theres a huge hiring wave going on and he's already working I'd be surprised if he's not at the regional level within a year.
We have captains in their early 20s st encore and hear jazz as well. They can only have 5 years max in the industry...there hasn't been a time in this good in our industry since the early 80s. If you're contemplating aviation as a new career now the time. Dont miss this wave.

The feet you step on today might be attached to the ass you're kissing tomorrow.
