FDOPS dispatcher exam help

Post by sullecpt »

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some help on the FDOPS exam. I'm wondering if anyone has sample exams/questions and or study material outside the obvious books that they would be willing to share.

Ive used the search here and found some good stuff too, however the exam covers such a broad area. My respect to anyone without a aviation background who managed to pass them!

Thanks

I’d say the “obvious books” are your best bet for passing the exams.

I agree. I used pilottraining.ca + AIM + Aerocourse ATPL questions book.

Yea I mean there are dispatch prep books (M. C**hane for example), but if you don’t want to fork out 500-600$ on those books you could do what igorcanuck said.
ATPL prep book+AIM+FTGU would also be a good combo. Not to mention the AIM is actually used on the job from time to time.
Get used to reading the CARs too.. they’re actually pretty digestible if you know WHERE to look. I like them better than the CFRs.

I wrote the FDOPS & FDMET recently. Passed both. Here are a few questions but not the answers (look them up and learn something):
... = I don't remember

#) What height does a CTRL zone start at?
700 FT ASL
700FT AGL
Surface
...

#) When does a CVR need to record?
1) From when crew enter the cockpit
2) From start to shut down.
3) From taxi out to taxi in
4) From takeoff to landing

#) What is Critical Mach?
1) When the sound wave first touches the airplane
2) When the sound wave covers the wings
3) When the airplane is exceeding the speed of sound (or something like this).
4) ...

#) What type of drag do winglets reduce?
1) Form
2) Profile
3) Induced
4) ...

#) What do winglets do relating to drag?
1) reduce form; increase induced
2) reduce induced; increase form
it continues for 3 & 4

#) Oxygen quick-donning masks need to be worn continuously above what altitude?
1) FL250
2) FL300
3) FL380
4) FL410

I didn't know they ever needed to be worn continuously unless there was a depressurization!

#) How often does a flight follower/dispatcher need to contact the crew?
) every 30 minutes (no way, stop pestering them!!)
) every 1 hr
) every 2 hrs
) 1 hr dom / 2 hrs intl

check if there is a difference for DOM/INTL ops.

# What does it mean when crew sets 7500 for a minute then sets 7700?
) Unlawful interference and now an emergency with the aircraft too
) Unlawful interference changed to emergency with the aircraft
) ...
) ...

I was looking for finger slipped in turbulence but it wasn't listed :(

===============
FDMET:

What air masses are common in North America during winter?
Flying in rain then encounter heavy rain; what lies ahead?
Where would you expect to see lenticular clouds?
What type of cloud is a low-level cloud? Possibilities:(CI, AS, ST, etc..)
Arctic Steam
How do raindrops form? (condensation or sublimation)
Large water droplets need what to form? Possibilities:(high moisture, lifting current, etc...)

A lot of questions about unstable air. Will it cause showery or steady precipitation, etc..

One really good question about SLP since no one pays attention to SLP in Canada since we rely on altimeter settings not hPa. That's old-school.
It was something like:
METAR ................................................................. SLP852
) Sea-level pressure is 985 in. HG
) Sea-level pressure is 985 hPa (guessed this one although I don't know)
) MSL pressure is [something like] 1035 hPa
) ...
