Emirates is shutting down in the next couple of days.

Mostly but not entirely. They plan to continue flights to a few destinations (YYZ among them) to help repatriate folks back to their home countries, and they're also continuing cargo operations. At the moment (until June), no pilot layoffs but everyone's taking a 50% pay reduction. Housing and other benefits continue. Not bad in the grand scheme of things.

I wouldn't worry about companies laying off. This virus will pretty much be the end of aviation as we know it. This virus is expanding exponentially and will kill off any remaining airlines. It's just a matter of time. Anyone who thinks this matter will go away in three to four months is out of touch with reality.

Down south, furloughs were rescinded and min credit pay re-established until September 30. Most pilots were put on a reduced long-call reserve schedule at my airline. This is a result of the bailout package. It's just delaying EI, really, but gives a bit of money in the interim.

I wish the LIB govt would offer something like directly to airlines. This 75% wage subsidies is a mystery to the airlines up here it seems.

I am curious. How is it that AC (and I believe WJ and Encore) managed to come up with a work share agreement to reduce (mitigate) the effects of the industry downturn yet Jazz has come up with nothing?

Did the Jazz ALPA MEC sacrifice their junior members by not doing some sort of work share thus allowing senior members to carry on with normal 75 or 80 hour pay while the junior members hit the bricks? Did ALPA take the position that since the junior members are on the property as a stepping stone to something bigger (WJ or AC) that they were expendable in order not disrupt the lifestyle of senior, "lifers" at Jazz?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Considering the flying was reduced to just 12% of last April’s flying, I’m going to say we are still over staffed. However, they did say they are still working on mitigation, so layoffs could be rescinded but had to go out when they did for the 30 day notice.
The reality is, this is not looking like a quick recovery and there may be more layoffs to come, hopefully I’m wrong!

Interestingly enough, the two way provision to the One List saved a lot of jobs in the short term as I understand it.

Jazz pilots don't own their flying, and CHR is paid a markup on its costs by AC. AC pays all the costs plus a % for their profit. That's how CHR make their $.

Do their costs have to be reflected in reality. Not full price for no flying.
