Transport Canada shutdown

Post by redlaser »

Have you been affected in any way by Transport Canada not providing services because of covic-19, I would like to hear from you if you lost any of your ratings as i did, Several emails to the minister of transport Hon. Marc Garneau went unanswered. As well as the Toronto office.

TC Toronto (yonge) has been excellent as I had all my emails replied within 24 hours so far. Last one was yesterday.
I don’t know what could be your issue

How does one lose a rating? There have been many deferrals for 90 days or longer.

I paid $50 for a medical extension in the middle of March, days before the blanket extensions were issued. It took me over two months and dozens of emails and phone calls to get a refund. Not a huge deal, but a giant pain in the ass.

Instructor ratings have a time limit, class 4, one year, class 2 ratings valid for 3 years, and a class 1 rating valid for 5 years, if you go beyond these time limits your rating expires, It's stupid but that is how transport Canada regulations are written.

I know of a person that just got a multi done in Ontario so not too sure about Avatard being incorrect.

Is it maybe left to the individual examiner whether he/she wants to do the checkride or not?

Multi-engine flight tests are not done by a Transport Canada inspectors but by a designated flight test examinators, which are not employed by TC,

Gotcha. I guess the same can be said for PPL and CPL flight tests?

Most flight tests are done by Pilot Examiners, not TC inspectors. (Some are done by inspectors). It’s up to Pilot Examiners if they want to conduct tests; I know some are still working, or have started working again.

I believe Class 1 instructor rating and Class 1 aerobatic instructor rating flight tests are the only ones that are always done by TC Inspectors.

I didn’t say Transport Canada inspectors. Pilot Examiners are working so if you need a flight test they’re available.

Went well, although not too happy with my Met score, but did pass nonetheless.

TC over at Yonge St. is using Scantron forms (versus computers) to do the tests so you don't get your results right away. Everything is also thrown away after the test... what a waste of new and crisp VNC and LO charts.

I'm a bit puzzled, if you didn't get your results right away how did you know you didn't do so well in the meteorology questions, ?

What I meant was that, prior to Covid, tests were done via a computer. You sit down, click buttons, then the person in the front desk prints out your results.

Today, you do it via paper Scantron, you leave the premises, you wait... and then your results are emailed out to you. Was not too long of a wait (3-4 hours), but not as instantaneous as it was prior.

OIC, Whatever happened to the computer exams, did the computer get coronavirus and die, were the examinators wearing face masks, did you wear a mask during the written exam, have you been tested for coronavirus since your return,
