TC database shows it as a balloon, or if it's GKJA it is Riems 172. But both are showing active with no previous assignment to another aircraft.

Yah, saw that already. The plane looks like a high-engine twin, possibly radial seeing as there are large augmentor tubes coming off the back of the engine mounts

It was an Aero Commander 580 operated by Aero Photo from Quebec City. I can't remember what happened to it, it was awhile ago.

I just found that out. I checked the historical records of TC and found a couple of references to that plane listing it as an Aero Commander.

Pictures were taken this evening.

I used to work in Hall Beach for Nordair many many years ago. I remember that Aero Commander being a wreck when I was there in 1981. Back then, none of the locals had any recollection of when that accident occured, so I would guess it was back in the 70's or even 60's.

I was at the DEW Line Site, FOX Main (Hall Beach) from Sep 1967 to Sep 1968 as an Upper Air Weather Observer
The plane, CF-KJA, was an Aero Photo plane doing photo surveillance in the area
It crashed in the early hours in the spring of 1968

I have several additional pictures of the wreck if you are interested.
