I saw one of them take off from a strip in Varadero, Cuba. It was sitting there, then it sounded loud, then moved a couple of feet forward and popped off the ground. VERY cool plane!

There was one in Buttonville for most of last winter (could still be there for all I know), they look like a great float plane, mind you the lower wing would hamper docking a bit.

Apperently the An-2 is one heck of a bush plane- possibly outperforming our Beavers and Otters... in Eastern Europe they were often put on floats.

If you had a desire to fly by plane An-2, but you didn’t have an opportunity to join the aeroclub or to get in property An-2, now you can establish a simulator of plane An-2 on your computer.
To ftp the program for installation of a simulator of plane An-2 you can on the web-address: http://www.an2plane.ru in section "About plane An-2" in subitem "Simulator of flight". There is placed the model of plane An-2 on the wheel chassis, with the instrument panel, a 3D-cabin with working devices, with a sound and the genuine instruction on airworthiness of plane An-2.

The AN-2 "Colt" simply flat out rocks as an airplane. A guy would just about give his left nut to go for a zoom in one.

Bob Marsh in our RAA chapter was one of the guys that flew the one at Buttonville over from the UK. It was quite a flight for two private, VFR pilots. They did get lots of IFR experience real quick on the way over. They arrived at Gander and ended up taking a commercial flight to Ontario because they didn't have the ratings, equipment, etc and TC didn't like it when they offered to fly it back to the UK if landing at Gander was going to be such a problem. Apparently it used 20 gallons of oil on each leg that was poured in from inside the cockpit. Also the home made fuel pump had to be repaired with a shoe lace to seal a shaft on the last leg.

Sounded like a real adventure.

Dont think that anyones spent the $ to get them cert comm. I'm sure you'd see a bunch popping up in bush ops and the odd 'no salary' cargo hauling company if someone had. Very cheaply priced for alot of airplane.
