Flight level 23oh!
Welcome to the new generation. It is becoming epidemic!
Aircraft - "Winnipeg centre Jazz, etc at flight level 23 oh!"
Center - "Jazz blah blah, flight level 23zero"
I thought O was a letter and 0 was a number. What do they teach these new F?O's. Do they even know the difference between a flight level and an altitude?
Just my peeve for the day

New?
We said 23 oh forty years ago when being cleared to - level - descending through said altitude.
You have to get out of the bush more Lost Lake.

Irks me aswell! Makes me think the offender is lazy...but that's just me.
Re: Flight level 23oh!
Same, if you're at work no matter under which banner you fly for, you are representing your company. That's all I am saying if you know what I mean. Being lazy should be the least portrayed figure on a radio. Although, the pilot could have had a bad day, we all have those.
Good thing the ATC emphasized the zero

Proper R/T using the correct phonetics................... FL 230 two three zero.....not two three oh USofA bad for this and we have let it creep in to our practices. 0 is a # O is a letter.

Lol, JAA would eat you alive if you said 23 OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY GODD, AHH OHHH AHH ... seriously. Especially in the UK.
You're expected to say Zero, then say it, you're expected to put the gears down for landing, then do it. Don't fuss about it, at least that's my view point.

Then you're supposed to say fife and niner.

E-Flyer, how much time do you have confirming altitude clearances and reports above FL180 in Europe?

This is what happens when "pilots" sit in automated machines straight and level at the Flight Levels.... Nothing better to do than stress about radio work or who has committed more pages of the Flight Manual to memory...

Okay you guys are taking it in a bad way again, I think it's a general avcanada thing eh?
Look, if you're given a task, do it properly. I agree there are MANY important tasks to be done, speaking properly is one of them in my opinion. It might be one of the smaller items, but it's still something you do right ? It's funny how I am being criticized for promoting the right thing to do. Guess that's aviation at the higher levels? I F R (I @#$! the Rules) ??

STL, you gotta drop by one of these days.....I'm working on a FMS with a real neat multi color touch screen for helicopter long lining and heli logging.
It is powered by the glow of the pilots gold stripes shining on the screen.

Re: Flight level 23oh!
E-Flyer, we're just giving your a hard time. There are many important rules to follow. Communicating clearly is probably one of the most important one depending on what kind of flying you do. However, flying at 390 and saying 39 oh is not, in my opinion, something very serious. Nobody will have a huge SA dump because of that (ie: OMG, he's are Flight Level 3-9 Oscar, where is that, is he on TCAS?!?). I say Oscar for O anyways, if it's really going to confuse someone....E-Flyer wrote:Okay you guys are taking it in a bad way again, I think it's a general avcanada thing eh?
