Looks like a really cool way to get the gear down!

I watched that happen from my cockpit across the apron. That was this summer in Sandspit. I have to say, I was a little concerned for the AME that was pulling on the gear. Nice job by the driver though.

I guess your right. I never noticed the fire trucks at the beginning. They were definetly not present in Sandspit. Recurring snag?

I did this once in the late sixties. On a 727. I had to run down the runway as the pilots did a low-and-over and pry the LH main with a rusty pocket knife. It was OK, just a bit hot because it was late July in LAX. The plane had to slow down so I wouldn't outrun them down the runway.

Why not just put the jacks on it.... or land it on a mattress, or...

I was giving a tour of a Forward Operating Base to the incoming Officer in Charge when I was in Iraq. I didn't like the guy from the get-go.
So we're walking along a row of LZ's and the Air Boss comes over. So new OIC points out to the Old Air Boss how he doesn't like how dirty the FOB is (This is freakin Iraq for petes sake!!). About the same time he points over to the a stack of mattresses and pallets behind a P-19 ARFF (airport firefighting truck) to emphasize his point.

Me, being a little junior to the new OIC (a Major) pipe up and say, "Sir, those are in case a helicopter comes in with gear problems, not a garbage dump."

Not the funniest story in my repertoire, but anytime you can get a senior officer who is also an ass to shut his trap is always priceless.

Carry on.

Hmmm... Mattresses, you say? I think it has been done... with less than ideal results!
