An Edmonton pilot is missing after failing to return from a flight over the Drumheller area on Monday afternoon.
Capt. Pierre Bolduc of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre at CFB Trenton, Ont., said the pilot took off from the Edmonton City Centre airport just before noon alone in a Beechcraft Bonanza plane. The pilot was supposed to return to the airport a couple of hours later after a quick flight over the badlands without landing.
At press time, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association of Alberta was searching the flight path as CFB Trenton readied a Hercules to help locate the missing plane.

Since 9/11, not one pilot has hijacked his own aircraft with his tweezers.

As of yet they're still searching.
We can't stop here! This is BAT country!
Re: Missing Pilot in Drumheller Area
Any ideas on how long it will take to send a Hercules aircraft from CFB Trenton all the way to Drumheller?
Sure wouldn't want to rely on one of those...

Flew out of CEN3 at 6:45 this morning and the Herc was in the area already, so apparently they can get the quickly. Hope they find the plane soon.

ummm Far as I know, there are hercs pretty well around the country most of the time.... normally very little time before they are on site... God forbid that you might need one, one day....
Re: Missing Pilot in Drumheller Area
The C130 would have likely been sent from Winnipeg.
Re: Missing Pilot in Drumheller Area
the CF had a few C130's in Alberta (CYXD, CYOD) the past week so I wouldn't be surprised if one of those got tasked with the SAR

Narrative: RCC Trenton reported an overdue Beech V35B Bonanza aircraft out of Edmonton City Centre Airport. The private aircraft, with just the pilot on board, departed Edmonton (YXD) without a flight plan for a practice IFR trip to the southeast. The aircraft was later reported overdue by a concerned citizen. After reviewing radar tapes, the aircraft was last observed at 1900 hours local time at 4,000 feet and 20 NM northeast of Drumheller heading east bound. CASARA Edmonton and a 435 Sqn Hercules have been tasked to conduct a search and initiated SAR flights on the evening of June 15 and are continuing this date. There is no ELT signal.

A wreckage of the plane that was missing from Edmonton was found Tuesday afternoon, search officials have confirmed.
"At approximately 4:40 p.m. MT, a CC130 Hercules was investigating a sighting report in the vicinity of Castor when it found the crash site. Search and Rescue technicians parachuted into the site and they did find the pilot," said Capt. Mark Peebles, a spokesperson with Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
However, he would not give the pilot's condition.
Castor is about 140 kilometres east of Red Deer in central Alberta.
The pilot took off from Edmonton's City Centre Airport Monday afternoon in a single-engine plane and was heading south but didn't arrive when expected.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre at CFB Trenton was notified and planes were sent to Alberta. A Hercules aircraft was dispatched out of Winnipeg to help with the search. Pilots with civilian air search and rescue also assisted.
A total of seven aircraft helped with the search.
The family has asked that the pilot's name not be released.
Re: Missing Pilot in Drumheller Area
I Couldn't understand why he was so far to the east if he was headed back to YXD, until I remembered the CBs we had so I pulled this

I know it's pure speculation and we probably will never know what happened, but I'll take a guess that he was dodging CBs.
