Hi folks,
I just started watching this series.
It brings back a lot of memories of flying the north.
I have compiled a list of my thoughts in no particular order.
It is good to have a good person as cheif pilot, Arnie seems to be a good guy.
Airlines exist to make money, not to fulfill dreams of flight for pilots.
Life is not fair, females getting priority in the flight line etc., a lot of recent accidents in the U.S. , there has been a lot of chatter talking about
getting on with other airlines on the taxi out or inflight, focus on the current flight with discipline, that other person is probably brutal anyways , and it will probably catch up with them
sometime in their career.
"Buddy" swearing , and getting pissed at his first officer who obviously was a "deer caught in the headlights," was probably sh*t on when he was a a first officer.
You will not get hired by a major airline with this attitude, and most likely you will be used by that first officer in his/her interview question of,
"have you ever worked with a difficult crew member?" "How did you handle it?" "I did nothing and took it in the a$$ because that is what a beat down unassertive copilot is supposed to do!!"
"Do I get the job???"
When Joe gets struck down by lightning (that is why he never really goes down south in summer where thunderstorms are, especially Red Deer, I heard he has two rampies carrying lighting rods beside him) , his kids will probably run the business into the ground.
I have seen it before in family run operations.
Wrecking your back to prove that you are a hard worker is wrong.
Those guys that are in their late 20's are aging rapidly, you can see it in their faces.
Most guys reflect fondly on their time in the north years later for about 5 minutes, reflecting on how they did their tour of duty, did not bend any metal, made good friends.
What most pilots in this country have to do to get started in their careers is amazing, I wish flight attendants had to do a stint in the north (less whining).
You can tell when you fly with someone who has flown the north ,they have good hands and feet and do not really get fazed by much.
I will keep watching, good production.
Fly safe.
Mel
