Handheld Nav/Com Radio - its uses as a backup for VOR nav
Just curious.
I was looking at some hand-held radios online, and some products mention to have the capability of picking up Nav frequencies, with a CDI function.
Has anyone here ever tested/used one on the VHF nav function with its CDI??

I was just testing mine out the other day. Range about 2/3 of the aircraft VOR and within 4 degrees. I suspect it is more accurate than the aircraft VOR.

Interesting.
I wonder - could it be used to shoot a VOR approach should your aircraft's VOR equipment suddenly fail??

I have one. Very pleased with it, and I was surprised how long the battery lasts......and when it does die, it gives you lots of warning.
Never really used the nav function, but for the small extra cost it's worth having.
Matt.
