G8/G20 VIP air travel

Post by tedcuthbert »

I'm not much of a spotter, but am somewhat interested in the air activity that will be happening around Toronto/Huntsville next weekend. So the leaders & their entourages will all be arriving in their own rides http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_transp ... government but does anyone have any idea (I know it's super top secret stuff...LoL) how they'll be getting around when here? G20 only participants, will likely be landing YYZ then motorcading downtown (guess thet'll be parking all those big AC on the de-icing ramp?). There was speculation G8 leaders might be landing North Bay then heli or motorcade to Deerhurst, though a couple have AC that could land at YQA, but lately I've been reading they might all be landing YYZ then helicoptering to Deerhurst, then back downtown for the G20. I'm guessing the Americans will be the only ones bringing their own helicopters, so would other leaders hitch a ride from the airport to Deerhurst (about 100 miles) on Canadian Gov't helicopters? Do we have any gov't VIP heli's? or possibly use STOL AC into the strip at Deerhurst (3000 ft)? On another note, the RCMP has been active amassing a fleet of AC at YQA http://www.metcam.navcanada.ca/hb/playe ... =56&lang=e and GCFR the govt DHC-7 patrol AC flew in this morning. Anyhow, for those grounded with time on their hands or those of us who like aviation background noise, we can always listen to what's happening through the YYZ & YTZ tower streaming http://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=cytz

Busy in the air around Huntsville today. Anyone know if they are using the Deerhurst frequency or YQA or on another channel? Might blast around after dinner to see what all the commotion is about.

Why did they need to build a fake lake? Ontario has 200,000 real ones.

Lots of equippment parked on the Deerhurst Runway (05 end) doesn't look like they'll be using it. However, lots of room to land Twin Otters. Lots of OPP vehicles parked on lots, vans, rhinos, atv's, boats, buses, tents you name it, I saw it this evening. Not very many vehicles at Deehurst itself. Pretty interesting looking around. Saw one of the big boats on patrol... yeah right... was a nice evening for just plain cruising for them & me and best yet never saw another aircraft. Still no new camera so photos were crap.

Russia State Transport Company IL-96 RA96019 arrived this afternoon, parked @ CDF.

(To answer your question - there will be Chopper transfers from YYZ to Deerhurst... only for those that "Bring Your Own Chopper")

This is the speculated list from last years events (from airliners.net) There are going to be MANY delays, and an officer every 100m around the perimeter. During AF1s arrival all surrounding access roads etc will be blocked. It will be parked at the GTAA hangars (its been locked down and is currently under 24/7 patrol)

Yes, definitely going to be an interesting week at YYZ, as to air transport Toronto to/from Deerhusrt, I understand it's customary for the host country to offer rides to those without their own, for Kananaskis and Montebello (ok, that one was a while back) they used Griffons, not exactly a deluxe ride, but it beats driving. Will be interesting to hear how it all goes. Thanks for the recon Sheephunter, I hear Fowlers pit is quite the sight. I was going to fly over YQA & Deerhurst tomorrow on the way to the cottage (just north of Huntsville), but looks like the weather will keep me grounded. great old clip from Montebello, nice shot of Ronnie driving a golf cart - ah the good old days

I niavely assumed we wouldn't embarrass ourselves by using those in a VIP role.

Anyways, any other info that can be divulged by those that can't divulge it???

Thanks for your sarcasm retard. Not trying to be "heroic" as you eloquantly suggest. All I am saying is those that are privy to the operation and how its going to be conducted and what surveillance is being implemented simply cannot divulge that information.
If you are ANYWHERE near Deerhurst without a code or flightplan starting Thurs. be prepared to understand your intercept orders. MANY, MANY EYES ARE WATCHING YOU. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH....

We do a lot of work in the Huntsville area and I was told by a co-worker that the US military has taken over the area of Port Cunnington and witnessed Apache or Cobra gunships flying overhead. Are these just private security for the American entourage or are these part of the intercept plans? And if intercepted by Foreign forces in Canada are we legally required to comply?

Hmmm, what are the odds, some happy go lucky float plane, with no care in the world - who's never heard of the G20 or cares - takes his regular route thru Huntsville???

After all how many aircraft have cruised thru Reagan Airport airspace unannounced so far - lots and lots of them. Haven't shot one down yet!!!

I'm tied down 5.02 miles west of the threshold of 05 at Deerhurst. Raining pretty hard right now, only heard one helicopter so far today but it sounded like it may have gone into the Hospital. Still pretty quiet around here. Three bomb threats though so far (that we know of) . I think us locals are basically staying at home and out of the way but I can imagine someone cuttin' cross country not knowing why they need to know their intercept orders. Protesters are supposedly showing up Thurs. Their "lot" is about 1/2 mile or less up the road from my house. Not too impreeded with that. It'll be interested to see how this billion dollar party unravells.

What an "effing" colossal waste of our money, this over bloated exercise is. Heads should roll and nuts snapped over this 3 day fest to host a useless summit that means "dick F--- all" the the average person who is tagged to foot said bill. The palms will be greased starting with the hookers all the way up the the instant security experts.... on our(taxpayer) tab.
