Bit of a bump, downloaded the first two episodes. Show is super over dramatized, but at least its entertaining and worth a watch.

It was on Discovery when I was in LA last week, but I don't think it's on in Canada (at least yet). Fascinating show - ice pilots squared! The owner of the operation seems very smart and is an excellent bush pilot, although I'm not so sure about some (one) of his pilots. If you watch the show, you'll probably know which ex-surfdude guy I mean

Totally irresponsible, unnecessary, dangerous, immature and reprehensible. In other words brillant!

Enjoy the show and realize that it's over dramatized. Ice Pilots takes 250 hours for one hour of programming. Goes to show you that they probably sit around doing routine stuff and once and a while get some exciting stuff. If they brought a crew out to YHZ, they'd be bored stiff!
Re: Flying Wild Alaska
Another similar programme I saw in the states is "Alaska Wing Men". Just saw one episode: student pilot (with instructor in the plane) landing on the highway in between traffic, which apparently is perfectly legal in Alaska. I guess the idea is that if the weather turns crappy it's better to land on the road than crash into a mountain. Anyway, it was amazing footage - shot from the plane itself, and from a camera on the road. Not sure if it was staged, but still pretty fascinating TV nontheless!
Re: Flying Wild Alaska
We used to land on the "highway" around here regularly for revenue trips until the territory transport minister (who supposedly has a vested interest in the local chopper company) put the kaibosh (sp?) on that.

Like anything on tv it has its over dramatized moments. But I still find it good to watch, on par with ice pilots. The torrents work and are good quality

Better than ice pilots. At least we don't have to watch the fat kid try and bake a cake!!

Very interesting. But... They mispronounced Tuluksak, of course, and that airport is only 20 minutes from Bethel, why not get fuel there.... anywho... spent 2 glorious years flying in that part of the world. Thanks for the heads up on the program, I'm going to have to keep an eye on it and see what kind of 'trouble' Hageland Aviation gets into.

Re: Flying Wild Alaska
Good Show, beats Ice Pilots hands down.
Yeah it is overdramatized, but not as much as Ice Pilots NWT.
Besides, the Mackenzie Valley Milk Run to Deline, Telita, etc is getting a bit old.
I find there is a little more of a human touch to Flying Wild Alaska. The work these folks do is much more interesting.

I like it more than Ice Pilots also, but if you get a chance to watch Alaska Wing Men, I find it much more interesting with the different types of work they showcase, from lear jet medivacs and super cub bush flying to helicopter drill moves. I also find this one of the two to be much less dramatized for the general public, the pilots are explaining what's really happening, not the scripted narrator.

Just noticed they have the first two episodes on tonight on Discovery Canada
