7F Herc Emergency in YZF
Lots of rumours going around about this one. Before I go to the B.K., can anyone in the know shed some light?

I was on the way into ZF at the time... I heard the Herc declare an emergency I believe it was "702 declaring an emergency we have just had some sort of structural failure we are levelling 220 and requesting reduced airspeed now maintaining 180 knots." After that it sounded like they were using the masks...they landed in ZF safely about an hour later. Talking to people at Firstair I just heard it was serious and it wasn't going to be flying anytime soon..rumour had it that there was a crack somewhere...but all just rumours.
Just glad everyone got home safe because really thats what its all about.

You can fly a radial farther than you can ship a Merlin.

The story as I heard it.
They had just levelled off, heard a bang, and started losing pressurization. The F/E went into the back, heard air escaping around the center section, where he observed a crack about two feet long, right at the center of the bottom edge of the wing root. They depressurized, went on oxygen, and remained at 200 as they knew it was smooth there from the flight north, and reduced speed to 180. It was pretty tense until after landing as they did not know the structural integrity of the wing structure.
The aircraft is still in YZF. They are looking to develop some temporary repair to ferry it to a facility for a permanent repair.
It had just 8 days earlier come out of an almost 3 month major mtce check.
Excellent job done by the crew and happily an uneventful outcome.
Great job guys!!
