Pick a plane to fly around the world
You have to pick a plane to circumnavigate the globe. Your duty is to fly the plane and show the pilots seat to kids at airshows. I will take a B36, it has the room for my
If we can put oil in the engine while we're flying then we have absolutely no problem at all.

Tiger Moth.
If you're going to have an adventure, might as well make it a real one...

that would be one hell of adventure trying to pilot one of those around the globe, might take you a while too.sky's the limit wrote:Tiger Moth.

Kids at airshow's eh?
I guess that rules out a 777 in exec config full of attractive, young, blond, flight attendants (first choice)
I'd take the blackbird if I can pick anything to show at an airshow (second choice, a little far fetched still)
I'd be pretty hot for an old fighter though, say a bf109, fw190, P51, Spit, Hurricane, Corsair, etc. (third choice)

Grumman Albatross. You can live aboard. Land anywhere.

This is tough. I'll start my long list here. http://www.controller.com/listingsdetai ... 205631.htm?
Just because it has a pretty good pilot's seat to show kids. The gruman and 777 ideas sound good for making such a long trip a little nicer.

Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
Without a doubt the latest and greatest airplane ever built the F35 of course!!
Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
Sikorsky S-38 or Lockheed Electra (round engine one of the 30's) and, yeah, I know, they're slow but you didn't say it had to be a record breaking trip. Style and nostalgia for me.
Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
Does this have to be a plane in existence? The Dornier Do X would be my choice if you went to airports with float bases nearby. If not that then a Super Constellation or a Ford Trimotor would be my choice.
Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
I'm in love with the idea of taking an antique around the world but I think the best bang for your buck just might be a Waiex:
If the intent is to get people excited about flying then I think this little beast has it all. You have sporty and exciting looks, I think they're mildly aerobatic, side-by-side seating to make intro flying easy and apparently you can have one for about the price of a high-end hatchback. Also important is the powerplant. With a converted VW you're probably no more than a couple hours away from the nearest parts source anywhere on the surface of the earth. Of course, it would ride across oceans in a shipping container.
On the other hand, all the way around the world in a Tiger Moth would be a spectacular experience.

Be home in time for dinner.
If you seriously want to fly around the world, go to the north pole, and do a quick 360. Easy.
Re: Pick a plane to fly around the world
Is there something to be said about wing redundancy? I just love this plane.

I have to agree with Justwork, a stagger wing would be great!
Here is someone doing just that!

I met up with him at the Lethbridge air show; he didn’t have the stagger wing with him at the time. He was a really nice guy and had a ton of pictures of his travels. I was trying to convince him to publish an article at the least or maybe even a book.

On amphibs, all polished up, with some faux CF lettering.
The sound of Two 985's churning away is a fantastic cacaphony!

You didn't say anything about economics. But my choice: The PC-12.
Lower costs because it is a light single-engine. Easy access to fuel because it burns Jet A. Has EFIS, Autopilot, WX radar and protection for known icing for serious weather flying. A P&W PT6 engine for piece of mind. Decent speeds so you won't be flying backwards in some winds.
