How to get Jet Fuel out of white pilot shirts

Post by cheetahcobra »

Does anyone have any tips or know of any products that can be used to get Jet A out of white shirts? Since some dripped on my shirt in a walk around, I've washed my shirt several times and got the smell out however it leaves a yellowish tint to where it touched the shirts. I use oxyclean and detergent to wash my shirts.

Any tips that work would be greatly appreciated, I know I'm not the only one that this has happened to!! :prayer: :prayer:

this is going to sound odd, but the best thing that works for jet fuel is pour coke on the stain and let it sit for a couple of min and put it in the wash with your detergent and drink the rest of the coke (preferably with rum in it) while the cycle runs through.... also works great with flight suits to get the smell/grease/and other nasty stuff out, just pour the whole can of coke right in the wash with your detergent, but you will require 2 cans of coke 1 for the wash and the other for the Rum.

Happy washing :D

Was the coke solution found before or after the rum had been added to the coke?

Unless you work for an airline, WHY would you wear a white shirt? I have a wee laugh every time I see a crew sitting up north in their cute little "uniforms"....white shirts (that usually look in need of a damn good bleaching) ties (WTF is the reason for wearing ties??) and uniform slacks that look like they had been slept in. Nothing says "professional" like a dirty uniform. Yah, right. Give me a crew in clean jeans and plaid flannel shirts any day. The north is NO place for cotton blend white shirts. You need to be "posing" in a terminal for that crap.

I always get a kick out of the companies who make their crews wear business attire in the North. -35 and a howling wind and these guys are out tending to their aircraft wearing clothing not even close to what they should be wearing for the conditions. Carharts may look a tad "unprofessional" but they will save your ass if you end up in the tundra for a night!!!

Excellent! Now I can have nice, clean, non Jet-A-stinky flightsuits and enjoy my Kraken rum too!

Sunlight dishdetergent and lemon juice. I used to wash my shirts in that after working in a fuel tank. They weren't white though, but might be worth a try

Mix half peroxide with half Dawn (dish soap). Let it soak overnight. It is the best mix ever for red wine, pen, etc. You need to use it as soon as it mix.
Good luck

I'm going to second the coke advice, oddly enough. Drillers tell me this is what they do do get diesel fuel out of their coveralls: Toss a can of coke in with the detergent. Maybe it works. I'm proud of the stains on my uniform and I like the smell of Jet fuel.

Not sure about Jet A, but I have personally seen Coca-cola get red wine puke stain out of a carpet.
