Looks like a basic version of Microsoft Flight Simulator will be free. To be released some time in the spring.

I wonder if they'll let us look at the source code? Free?

Just stirring the pot a bit.

Still, looks cool. :smt023

I saw a trailer for the new FS. Very sad. Pandering to the gamer audience. Hopefully this is just the marketing but...
If u notice, they dropped "simulator" from the name. I dont think thats an accident by the looks of things.

I remember how excited i was when the new fs were announced when i was younger. Really disappointed that the fs franchise seems to have moved in this direction. Hopefully the add-on community will keep fsx going for the people who want a real computer sim experience.

Maybe they're licensing the simulator program to Redbird or something.

We took a computer into memoryexpress for my mom. They had this crazy cool car racing set up that you could use with the flight yoke and switches to make a great flying sim at home including three monitors. It was pretty fun just for the rally racing game they had on it. Probably drop a thousand dollars on it pretty fast though.

Meh, it's just another game that happens to have airplanes in it. The only thing "simulated" is fantasy flight

Microsoft's Flight Simulator series, which was in dormant state until now, will see a re-launch this spring and that too for free.

The name of this series will be simply "Flight" and players will have free access to the digital sky with this simulator. In other words, it will be available as a free download; however, the user would need to buy additional content to enhance their experience. The content that can be purchased includes aircraft as well as new environments.

Ok, I'm really old or something. I cringed when they were going under bridges and through caves etc.

I find it rather ridiculous that they've included that future yuppie killer, the ICON A5, which, according to my sources, hasn't even reached the production stage yet (nor will it have until at least 2013). The marketing of that...err...jet ski with wings is quite aggressive to say the least.

I'm hoping all the "OH WOW EXPLOSIONS AND CAVES!" BS are addon modules. Provided that it accurately models the performance and depiction of the aircraft in the sim, and that you can add or remove modules to add terrain or effects, who cares what other people do with it.

And Go Juice, everything is better with a little Starfox.

Mark my words, this thing will flop and 5 years from now, the flight sim standard will still be FSX, P3D and Xplane. Lockheed is putting lots and lots of effort in P3D and it could very well be a strong replacement to the aging FSX.

The casual battlefield 3 gamer will get bored within minutes (hey I can loop and shoot at things that explode with my F22 in Battlefield!). The hardcore simmer will rage at the non-existing IFR, radionav or multi-engine jet. And they plan their business models on the purchases of addons by the exact consumer base that will never leave FSX for a toy. All the real addons developpers (PMDG, Orbx, Feelthere, Eaglesoft) completely rejected the business model and MS decided not to release an SDK (no freeware sceneries, gauges, gps, etc) to keep their addon market closed.

I have a CPL.

What is an SDK? Never heard of that.

Does that make me a bad pilot?

Just when I thought I was cool... :?

Software Development Kit. What people use to create add-on modules for a program. It probably makes you a bad flight sim test pilot. In theory people could still release mods without the SDK, but with other high-quality sims with decent kits available, why bother?

I wonder if they will still have the carrier landing in a Lear 45 adventure that was in FS98 LOL.

Here's something kind of neat for pretending to be a pilot. Fly to Oskosh.

That's for FSX, not MSF.

I made the mistake of downloading 'microsoft flight'. It's just a game, no real flight simulation at all. There is only one plane - the Icon A5 - and I can't see what other aircraft there are without signing up for an account. I prompted deleted it.

The now the best option is Flight Simulator X.

Should we move the link to one or screw the fake pilots, if you don't fly a real airplane every day GTFO?

Do whatever you want, I really don't care. I fly both on my computer and I'm not really sure why you think low hour pilots should GTFO. I put more hours on FSX and MSF than I have in any "real" airplane. I was just making an observation for clarity because it's FSX software in a MSF forum and people might get excited like I did that there is a new add-on to MSF, only to be disappointed because it's posted in the wrong thread. Not that I'd waste anymore money on MSF add-ons.

I wanted to help people that might enjoy that link find out about it. Since I don't know where the other threads are, guess I'll leave it here.
