Arctic Air CBC tv show
Just finished watching it. Super fun, loved it! It was nice to watch something made for fun and entertainment without being another "reality" show.
And NO, I DON'T work for CBC.

Just watchin it now meat...great show!
Some smart producer watched Ice Pilots and turned it into a fictional TV show. Pretty cool idea. Love the scenes from Yellowknife!

I enjoyed the show as well, more than I thought I would. It enhanced my viewing pleasure when Adam Beech got punched right off hop.

Nice dedication at the end.
There is no substitute for BIG JUGS!!
Re: Arctic Air CBC tv show
I didn't watch the show but I saw a preview.
Question:
If you lost all engines, would anyone use the term "deadstick"? I know what it means, but I never came across the term in training or in the profession.
Did Sulley use the term deadstick when he was headed for the Hudson? How about the Gimli glider pilots? I'm guessing no.
The only place I've actually heard it in use is in the TV/movies. Is it an American thing?

Watching Arctic Air now. I debated not even bothering as the trailer seem so lame, but in the spirit of hope over experience I decided to give it a try.
The verdict is...... Its Ice Pilots without the interesting characters, real airplanes, or fake drama.........

Re: Arctic Air CBC tv show
I liked that it was filmed in Yellowknife. I couldn't stand watching any of the actual aviation scenes. They did a hell of a lot more research into mining than into flying. A DC-3 maintaining altitude with one engine shut down and the other hardly producing power? Landing in Deline with a 200' ceiling and 1/2 mile vis? The old man didn't have his medical pulled after passing out? I didn't find any of the pilots' dialogue to be particularly believable either; I haven't met a lot of pilots who think engine failures and fires are such minor events that running checklists is less important than making snide comments.

Was going to say that too!bigsky wrote:Nice dedication at the end.

I thought deadstick was the symptom for which Viagra was the cure.MrWings wrote:I didn't watch the show but I saw a preview.

Good judgment comes from experience. Experience often comes from bad judgment.
Re: Arctic Air CBC tv show
Only 1 week was filmed in Yellowknife. The bulk of it was done in Vancouver and Langley.

Agreed, but I do give marks for creativity and my wife watched/enjoyed it, so what the hell. At least it wasn't a Corner Gas/Little Mosque on the Prairie marathon.ogopogo wrote:I thought it was strictly all

Re: Arctic Air CBC tv show
I didn't plan on watching it,(I see enough of YZF every week) but changed my mind late yesterday and was surprised. Over all pretty good and its worth setting the PVR for the next few episodes to see if the quality continues. It would not be the first time a producer makes a series and it turns out to be garbage after 4 or 5 episodes.
Some good aerial footage of the region and I can think of worse things to waste an hour of my time.
BTW, YES a very nice dedication at the end, I'm certain Family and friends appreciated it!
