AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
You may have guessed that I'm dealing with the regs and the regulator!
Really??, we have to have a training plan (with evaluation) for our commercial pilots that shows them how to maneouver a single engine, fixed gear, tricycle gear airplane on the ground? Just like the ones we all learned to fly on???? I just picked one random example.
I am well aware that the inspectors are overloaded but I'm sure they must get frustrated with this bs as well when they are tied to their desks with this 'stuff'.
My concern is that as we add more fluff and crap to our manuals and training we lose focus on the really important stuff that could kill people.

You will learn that transport Canada doesn't care if you kill someone, as long as your paper work is correctly filled out. If you have done that, they have done (and you as well) their due diigence.

Sad...
Some of the undeveloped countries must have better opportunities. The best place for a bush plane is where the road ends...

Re: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
They are essentially covering their ass. This is consistent with the SMS framework where responsibility for every aspect of your operation is carefully defined. Unfortunately, some of these seemingly ridiculous requirements are prescribed because there are plenty of pilots out there that are still lacking proficiency in some basic skills.
So when one of your pilots goofs up and ends up in the weeds off the side of the maneuvering area, you can stand up in court and honestly state that you provided the pilot with all the training he needed and that you and the company can not be held responsible.

Therefore the licenses that TCCA approves for pilots are not even good enough to wipe your ass with.
Re: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really true. The job descriptions that TC prints for their staff aren't worth wiping your ass with. Like all other parts of "government", they are deciding what you can and cannot do. None of us are responsible or smart enough to think for ourselves!Cat Driver wrote:Therefore the licenses that TCCA approves for pilots are not even good enough to wipe your ass with.

Sure its true. If a pilots licence isn't good enough training in how to taxi, whats the point in going out an getting a pilots licence? I'll just go get hired by an operator and he will train me in how to do everything, and it will be on his dime instead of mine.Lost Lake wrote:Not really true. Re: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly my position, the thin edge of the wedge started back in the late seventies or thereabout with the implantation of the PPC for light aircraft like the Navajo.Sure its true. If a pilots licence isn't good enough training in how to taxi, whats the point in going out an getting a pilots licence?
I remember the first time I became aware of this monstrosity called the PPC, I had been doing some part time fill in for an operator who had a Navajo when I was not flying water bombers and one day he said to me . you can't fly my Navajo anymore because you don't have a PPC, but I will give you one........knowing what it costs to operate an airplane I refused the PPC because not only did I not need a second job I just refused to accommodate some cretin sitting in some dark cubicle somewhere in government with nothing better to do than think up stupid new rules to justify his/her job.
The weird part was some years later I did a lot of flying for a logging company on their Navajo without needing a PPC.......go figure......
To add insult to injury these cretins in TCCA made the PPC transferable to any other company resulting in a lot of wasted money when pilots just grab a PPC and bail to another company.
Thankfully I was in aviation in a time when the chief pilot decided if we could fly any airplane on our license to his / her satisfaction.....not to support some parasite in TCCA.
There you go guys and gals......that is my position on that subject....

Re: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
. I once had a DoT inspector sign my IFR renewal before we took of on the renewal flight. How it came about was, the DoT inspectors in the Montreal region were on strike, so our CP called in a favour from the Moncton region. We flew down on a Saturday - yeah you read right, a Saturday - and he renewed four guys on the F-27. I questioned his signing the renewal before the test and the guy said 'Oh, I know you can fly the airplane, otherwise McLean wouldn't have hired ya."Thankfully I was in aviation in a time when the chief pilot decided if we could fly any airplane on our license to his / her satisfaction..

Re: AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Those were the days Siddley, how well I recall the DOT guys meeting us on a weekend in Montreal or Toronto when we were in town getting maintenance or whatever.
Check rides were done by those guys based on reality and if we fucked something up during the ride and had the presence of mind to correct it and tell them we realized it was a @#$! up they were happy and offered constructive advice and off we all went to the bar to socalize.
Oh.....by the way those guys could also fly an airplane.......
