Over on one of the 'other' forums, there's a thread on Concorde. All sorts of tech/handling/design questions answered by one of her pilots, f/e's, and avionics techs. If you are interested at all in Concorde, it's an interesting read..

a small teaser: in the 35 years that Concorde was operational, the RAF didn't have a plane in their inventory that could catch her.. (I would suspect that they still don't.)

G'day

Sorry North Shore but my beloved English Electric (later B.A.C.) Lightning could not only intercept the Concorde but also to the dismay of the Americans, intercept the Lockheed U-2.

During a British Airways trial, N.A.T.O. member nations were invited to attempt to intercept the Concorde. The only aircraft to succeed was a Lightning F.3 s/n XR749. It was flown by R.A.F. Flight Lieutenant Mike Hale. He described his aircraft as "a very hot ship, even for a Lightning". He pulled alongside the stunned British Airways crew at Mach 2.25."

Cheers...Chris

And we are ready to break the bank, and buy a bunch of Mach 1.6 CF-35? Where is the joke here?
The Russians and Chinese will eat us alive.

Chris/Moose,

Well, I stand corrected. (although, it was one, 'hot ship', specially prepped for the occasion..) I took that little bit from the PPRUNE thread, so perhaps I shouldn't believe everything I read online!

The F4 could very well have given the Concorde a run for its money.

And what the hell do F-35s have to do with a long retired supersonic jet airliner? I believe we have specific types of ordinance to take care of the speed problem? Is there a surplus of terrorist Concorde' over the arctic we need to shoot down?
