J3-Cub Tie-downs for OshKosh
Hey Guys,
I've searched the board and not found an answer to this question, I'm hoping someone might help me out.
I'm flying to OshKosh in 2 weeks (I'm pretty excited) in a 1946 J3 (L4B). I've been reading the OshKosh Website and it calls for some fairly strong tie-downs. After researching online I was hoping to pick up a set of Fly Ties (http://www.flyties.com/), but I'm having a hard time finding them for sale anywhere (they seem to be sold out).
In other research, I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Loq1olceSIE&noredirect=1 which suggests that these aren't any good. So, now I"m confused and have two questions:
1) Does anyone have any recommendations for tie-downs that would be suitable for my 720 lb cub? I'm hoping someone has experience with something on the same or similar aircraft.
2) Does anyone have a set of tie-downs that are good that they might be willing to sell to me or loan to me. I'd need them by July 19th, and I live in Southern Ontario.
Thanks everyone for your help in advance,
~Lotro

Umm... apparently google searches better than the site.
Looks like you covered this last year:

Thanks to fleet16b for recommending "the claw" - just need to find one now. Any help there would be appreciated.

Try the "Claw" and a couple of 1/2 pool noodles strapped to the top of the winfg to break the lift.

Just get a fat chick to sit in it over the weekend.

+1. Should be your cheapest option, it is Wisconsin, after all. Shouldn't cost any more than a few cheeseburgers.Doc wrote:Just get a fat chick to sit in it over the weekend.

Thanks Doc, I hadn't considered that as an option. I'll put an ad on craigslist in OshKosh.
How about:
Guaranteed weight loss!
Fat chick needed to sit in 1946 J3 Cub at OshKosh to keep it from blowing away!
Sweat the fat away amidst 500,000 aviation fans, 10,000 airplanes and 200 cubs!
Please apply with resume stating qualifications and picture.
Thanks for applying, only fat chicks will be contacted for interview. Dudes need not apply.
I got my hands on a "claw" via aircraft spruce in Brantford. Thanks for the advice on the pool noodle.

I'd sweeten the deal with a modeling contract from Instagram.

Why more people don't have lift spoilers on their light wing-loading aircraft parked outside baffles me.a couple of 1/2 pool noodles strapped to the top of the wing to break the lift

I guess it's because they think that a 5 gallon pail of concrete is more than sufficient to keep their fliver from flying away on them in a 40 knot breeze.
