Rumours have been flying for 15 years. NavCanada says "soon" but the date is always two or three quarters out.

NavCanada is afraid that the second they're available digitally, everyone will just pirate the digital copies and they won't make any money anymore.

An american friend of mine was up visiting a couple
weeks ago. He tossed me his iPhone, and said, "Look
at that line of thunderstorms!"

Sure enough, there was a nasty line of CB's heading
our way. It was nicely animated on a background of
a digital VNC.

Not sure why americans get digitial VNC's of Canada
and Canadians don't.

Air Navigation Pro is your only option at present. Costs $50, but turns your ipad into the equivalent of a $500 GPS unit. It has its own charts based on open-source maps, and includes all airports and controlled airspace. The only thing it doesn't have is obstructions.

For VFR flying it is perfectly adequate as long as you do your flight planning using the actual VNC.

NavCanada is actually in the process of digitizing the VNCs but I don't recall the timelines. IIRC Toronto and Vancouver will be among the first issued.

In the meantime, we're just stuck with paper... (however, our ForeFlight subscription on the iPad does allow us to download the ON, QC and NB FAA sectionals...)

http://ifly.adventurepilot.com/FAQ.aspx

Scroll to the bottom and look at the 4th question from the bottom. It says, " We are currently working with Nav Canada in an effort to offer a full Canadian data option. Nav Canada is currently developing digitized charts at this time. We are very hopeful that we will be able to offer a full Canadian Data option in the near future." I read this on their website at least 6 months ago. I've been waiting...
I think I'll call NAVCAN this week and ask some questions about the digitization of the VNC charts and hopefully I can get a few answers.
I'll post what they tell me.

The iFly has been saying that for a year! I've been waiting for it for what seems like forever...

I'm getting pretty depressed at the pace of NavCanada!!! We have a WAY bigger penetration of internet use here than in the states, yet we are so far behind in digital aviation it's sickening! I'm willing to bet some third world countries have more access to digital maps than we do!!! :(
