CRM Resources

Post by Gannet167 »

A friend of mine in the medical field is looking for some materials covering CRM. Despite its overly negative reviews here, CRM is something that is desperately needed in the medical field - where using a checklist to ensure you don't forget the forceps inside the patient in surgery is a very new and exotic concept, met with a lot of skepticism and resistance by the establishment. Can anyone suggest a good book or other learning materials that summarize how to build a good CRM program or covers the fundamentals of the concept? I love when pilots have to show doctors how to do it properly. Thanks.

This book might be of some interest. I haven't read it yet, but I heard the author on the radio and it caught my attention.

Tony Kern "Redefining Airmanship" and related subjects.

Excellent material that some doctor friends of mine are actually impressed with.

That and his follow up "Flight Discipline".

Last summer I purchased a copy of "Human Factors for Aviation - Advanced handbook", which is Transport Canada publication TP12864E, and I was very pleased with the relevant and important information presented there. There were two other books in the series too, which I have not read.

I am confident that a large percentage of information in this book would be meaningful to people outside aviation too.

Thanks guys. I have Redefining Airmanship, great book. The Checklist Manifesto is one she has already referenced quite a bit. It's amazing how much resistance there is to using checklists among the old guard of medical professionals, and also amazing how dramatically the frequency of medical errors that occurred dropped when checklists are used.

I will recommend these other resources.
