coming soon...Diesel SR20
The Deltahawk diesel is nearing certification and it looks like the first STC will be for the SR20 (http://www.deltahawkengines.com/PDFs/Ci ... elease.pdf). Now that would make for an economical, high performance personal ship! Where do I sign Up?!
They have engines out to a number of OEM's, including American Champion. It will be awesome on a Scout!

Re: coming soon...Diesel SR20
I hope they succeed, and offer certified engines for all the GA airplanes. But I will remain skeptical until I see them certified and flying. Plenty of promises of diesel power have been made, and the results, so far, are skimpy (at least in North America). Heck, you can not even get most cars with a diesel engine on this continent...
As a VW Golf TDI owner, I would never buy a car or an airplane with a gasoline powered engine, if I had a choice (sadly, most of the time I don't have that choice)

Re: coming soon...Diesel SR20
From the press release
If their engine is as poor as their English then they're doomed. Doomed.Less parts and no electronics...

How would you word it?photofly wrote:From the press releaseIf their engine is as poor as their English then they're doomed. Doomed.Less parts and no electronics...
Re: coming soon...Diesel SR20
Fewer parts. Anything you count is always "fewer" and not "less".

I heard Porsche is making an airplane engine!
I can't wait to get one! With advanced engineering,
it's going to be fantastic!

I stand corrected, and will have fewer problems because of it.photofly wrote:Fewer parts. Anything you count is always "fewer" and not "less".

Porsche alread made engines for GA. Back in the mid 80"s Mooney and Porsche teamed up for the ill fated Mooney PFM. It was the first the of the long body mooney eventually being the body of the TLS... then TLS Bravo and into the Ovations series and now the Acclaim, Acclaim type s (242kts!!).
It was revolutionary at the time being that it was a single lever engine control. The Interior was also designed by Porsche. I believe that when they first launched the idea, if you bought a PFM.... you got a 1 or two year lease on a 911~ "You buy a Porsche for your hangar, we will give you one for your garage" ..... I believe that was the slogan
PFM 3200 (engine) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_PFM_3200
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooney_M20 It was the M20L
Today the PFM/M20L's are being converted with a IO550 engines done at Modworks in FLorida. The program to do this and get it certified came to a halt when Modworks was destroyed by Hurricane Charlie....http://mooneypfm.com/index.php?option=c ... Itemid=149
But the finale was Rocket Engineering took the PFM and put a liquid cooled 325hp TSIOL 550 in it.... 225 kts! The original PFM only did 155 with the porsche engine in it.....

Deltahawk has been refining their base engines for years and are well into the certification process. They are also working with the US military for powering drones.

Re: coming soon...Diesel SR20
When Is soon ?
DeltaHawk is working and hoping on certifying the 180 hp in 2013 and that Cirrus needs the 200 hp.

Speaking of round engines, you could do a lot worse than an R-985I'm sticking with my Rhone, rotary
Designed in the 1920's - it's coming up on NINETY years old!

Over 39,000 of these engines were built, and many are still in service today.
