703 operators nedd to get ready for taws b now

Post by oldncold »

well the clock is running and has been for a year a savy 703 operator informed me last week that the clock is running with a deadline of july 4 2014 to comply with with taws b FOR ALL COMMERCIAL OPERATED AIRCRAFT OPERATING IFR OR EVEN NIGHT VFR CONFIGURED WITH 6 OR MORE SEATS NOT INCLUDING pilots seats . THE ONLY EXMPTION IS DAY VFR.

Fine for non compliance 25k for company and 5grand yes 5 grand for a individual ie pic.

what does this mean > well your old navajo or king air with the steam driven gauges will need to be permanently for 6 or less seats to avoid the expense . which is self defeating on the revenue / utilization equation . or upgrade to say a gtn 700 with the mfd . dont wait he told me the good avionics shope need proper lead time to install and certify the install.the expense is going to run upto 70 k per aircraft . well the good news THE OLE WORN OUT pa31's WILL BE PARKED OR GET all the ifr stuff working again with good new panels . book your upgrade now cuz you dont want to wait till next june in the heat of the season only to be told it will be 6 months to get fitted  8) :prayer: in

Cabin Class twins should never haul more than 6 pax anyway -- do the new regs apply to areas of Canada that are 30 years behind in aviation :smt040 -- there are a few :smt040

apology re english long day, I hit the submit before editing ..

yes taws 'b' no taws 'a' , they felt doing it now b would ensure compliance with u.s.a , which I believe is coming in 2016.

The a/c seats must be permanently prevented being reinstalled if do not wish to comply with regulations that come into affect on the previously mentioned day. So operators that play the temp install game can't circumvent the law.

Point form is : regulations july 4/ 2014 comes in to force for all commercial aircraft night vfr and ifr
6 or more passenger seats must have taw's b
cost up to 70k per aircraft lead times to comply upto 12weeks 16weeks.
failure to comply is 25000 fine per company per occurance and 5000 for the individual
only exemption is day vfr and/or remove seats it will be a mel u/s 3 day item

hope that helps and fly safe 8)

GTN 650 with the TAWS option. Not $70 K. Already seeing plenty of them in navajos.

The TAWS-B upgrade to a Garmin 500W/530W (with which most of our Navajos and King Airs are already equipped) runs under 10K (8K in the USA) and is a straight factory software/hardware upgrade. No big deal. If, on the other hand, you're still running all-steam gauges with the wonderful KLN-series GPS (not!), then you may run into scheduling problems with your local avionics shop. Regardless, a Garmin 530W/TAWS-B installation should cost no more than 20-25K (for a used 530W unit plus TAWS-B factory upgrade) plus installation.

Well as my intial post stated, it could run you upto 70k, depending on how elborate one wants to go. Just wanted to inform those that may not be aware, so some young aviator doesn't get a 5k fine on his license next summer on a ramp chk , for the boss not knowingor caring about this requirement, coming down the turnpike . so book the plane for the up grade sooner than later . it would be a cost effective at that time to put in a modern digital autopilot at the same time as the taws to modernize the whole panel
have a great weekend. :smt040

If people get any larger/heavier,then the airplanes that were designed for a standard pax weight of 170 lbs will only be able to carry 6 pax anyway
