+1 to that and every other suggestion involving getting out of the hotel.

Spend all your spare time holed up in your room basking in the glow of various LCD screens and lethargy will settle over you fast and hard, resulting in everything else about your stay appearing to suck. Get out, have some fun, get some exercise, interact with people and you'll have a great time, regardless of the perceived quality or lack thereof of the location.

About bed bugs.

http://bedbugregistry.com/
This website won't help you up in the North but it is good to have a look at it if you happen to go in the States or along its border.
Totally dependent on people reporting bedbugs presence though....

Far better to make a sport of it and take a pellet pistol with you.

Place a little cheese and peanut butter in a corner, and engage in a little rodent control in the evenings. It's great fun after 3 beers ...

Are mosquitoes going to be an issue?

Make sure you have enough extra clothes (underwear socks T shirts etc). Laundry might be an issue.......

Instead of just cleaning the plane would you be able to participate in the maintenance of the plane?

Go to a computer surplus store and buy a 120 volt biscuit fan, get a cord and plug and wire it. You won't find too many Northern hotels with air conditioning but it gets hot up there and the fan will help you get some sleep - it fits in your flight bag and its fairly quiet.
Buy a roll of bug screen and some tape. You will have to open your window to stay cool. At one famous hotel I stayed at, a glorified bunkhouse, there were 2 screens for 10 rooms and they tended to vanish in the night. Think of being tied in a gunny sack with 40 pounds of mosquitos and black flies (depending on the time of day).
Buy a plastic bug gun, the kind that shoots a tethered disc. You will have hours of fun shooting bulldogs.
Have some fun, but never refuse to dance if a "lady" asks you...

I would say it is an excellent opportunity to stay away from TV. I gave up on it when I came here, and feel much better. Although I have a 42 inch plasma screen in my room, connected to two satellite receivers, I have not turned in on in months. Internet is a much better pastime, as is the gym.

North Shore wrote:BEDBUGS

Put all of your stuff (bags etc..) in the bathtub before you step any further into the room. Then, strip the bed(s) and make a thorough inspection of the frame, boxspring, and mattress. Do the same to the chest of drawers before you use them. You do not want those little buggers getting a ride back to your house...

+1. Don't ask. This is sage advice. The things I wish I did not know.....

Holy crap - guess that's better than Norman Wells! They got "Iceland" correct, but they didn't get "Greenland" quite right.

One word for you - Sudoku!

Just read up on Kulusuk and the hotel, not at all like the Fort Simpson hotel, nor any other in Canada! I'd go there voluntarily! Have fun.

Not exactly sure on the hunting season's. But if you have time, maybe pick up a firearms license. 7F brings in tons of hunters for the Caribou season up there but it may be closer to the fall. I bet you can't find a better time killer then that! Might have to make some friends to get around though!

If you are in YVP, you may wanna try to hang out with the Air Inuit guys/gals. A great bunch of people. Better than sitting alone masturbating in your hotel room...

Enjoy your stay.

Actually there has been change of plan. I'm in Greenland Kulusuk (BGKK). Wish I brought more movies. Town aint big, its a 15 min walk around the town... Went fishing a little. ATC guys are friendly. Not much air traffic here.

Anyways, Thank y'all for the advice!

You should go fishing a lot ..... and take pictures. You'll regret not doing both in a few more years.
