If you had the money...
Lets say you won the Lotto, or finally got that huge inheritance. Now you can buy your dream airplane, it can be anything, what would you get? As for me I think I would buy either a refurbished P-51 or an L-39. Maybe both...
Re: If you had the money...
Pitts Special S2-B or C180 on Floats.
Not greedy, i'll need the rest of the lotto money to pay for fuel and burgers

I would start with a TTX. Unless I can only buy one then I would need to think about it further.
The problem is a cessna bird dog right now is my favorite plane, but if I won the lotto, I'm not the guy that has to ask his wife if he can go out for lunch today anymore. Thinking "maybe I should stop trying to fly."
The mission might change. I would probably be looking for a warm place with a good school system. What plane works best there?
Then again being able to afford to fly south for long weekends might make Calgary a happier place for me to live. ~sigh~

Sailboat sounds good to me. The idea of cruising down to Cabo seems more appealing than flying.
I think what I'd do airplane-wise is just beg, borrow, or rent time on as many different airplanes as I could... then get the REAL rich people to pay me to fly them.

I would winter in Florida where I could drive slow in the wrong lane with my blinkers on.
I would also wear a skirt because it is easier to hike it up so everyone I do not like can kiss my ass.

Re: If you had the money...
Easy question indeed
I'd scamper off to Maine and buy myself a brand spanking new Hinckley SW42!
I'd get to Main first class, drooling over the spec sheets with drink in hand.
I wouldn't buy an airplane.

Re: If you had the money...
This turned out to be a harder one than I first thought. To me the act of flying is more fun than the destinations an airplane can take you to see. Having said that, a lifetime of circuits would be boring so I want an airplane that can go places but will take it's sweet time getting there.
To that end, my first post-lottery purchase would have to be an A65 powered Pietenpol Aircamper. The Continental should be reliable enough to get you most places and common enough to find parts when it lets you down. I'd want to explore the smaller airports in the continental US and parts of Canada along the border, gaining perspective and experience to better spend the rest of my hypothetical winnings.

There's a tiger moth near by that I would make sure stays in flying condition and gets spends its time making sure there are still pretty little biplanes making noise and reminding people what the little yellow colored airplanes did.

PC-12NG in a combi configuration.
Go anywhere with its rough field capabilities, and take darn near anything with that huge cargo door. I'd pack a couple of motorcycles back there and see the world!

1. DHC-2T on amphibs.
2. Super Cub for the farm. Possibly a CH701 to be able to safely use the space (one way in and out on a hillside)
The PC12NG has tremendous appeal on many levels.
Fun thread.
