On a more serious note, if you do need paint,
these people do a fantastic job (in Ontario):

www.purplehillair.com/painting.asp

We had our FTU 172 done there, for an amazing
price. Paint job is incredible - surface prep was
flawless, as was the paint itself. No dry areas,
no orange peeling, no runs.

I recommended them to a friend of mine, who
just had his v-tail Bonanza done there. It looks
better than new. Gear wells are flawless. They
re-rigged it at the same time - it's faster now,
and flies hands-off now, which it didn't before.

I have no financial interest with these guys
whatsoever. They just do a kick-ass job, at
a very reasonable price.

I understand some of the guys from the now-
defunct SkyHarbour paint shop work there,
which explains the quality.

With enough money, many places can take the time to do great work. I want a place that will do great work cheaply. :)

I had mine done there about 5 years ago, it still looks great. The owner John knows small planes as well as anyone around. He has had Oshkosh show winners and full rebuilds. Purple hill is an AMO so you can have all the AD's and STC's done while he has it apart.

A big two thumbs up from me!

What's the cost for a small aircraft normally?

Our pa28 140 was due for a paint job years ago.

Our Local AME can do it for a few grand but those professional jobs look expensive.

Yup, while we're giving testimonials, Purple Hill is a great place for paint work.

the cost for a small aircraft
That depends on how it's done.

The cheap way is to do a quickie scuff and shoot,
which does not remove all the underlying paint.

The expensive way is to strip all the old paint off,
and start with bare aluminum. More disassembly
will often be involved.

If you're going to sell the aircraft, I suppose door #1
might be your choice (yuck).

If you're going to keep the aircraft for a long time,
door #2 is the better choice.

Note that many private owners illegally get local
car painters to do quickie scuff and sprays. They
aren't actually allowed to touch the flight controls,
but they do it anyways.

Regardless of the paperwork, a friend of mine is
dead now, because he had an automotive painter
do the rudder on his homebuilt, which fluttered.
He layered on lots of bondo, aft of the hinge line,
to get that "smooth" look.
