I was just wondering if the candidates that are accepted for both the IFR and VFR stream are required to review the same course materials before their start date?

Yes, there is a course for "ATC" (IFR & VFR) and one for "FSS"
And both IFR and VFR courses have the same ITA review exam during the first weeks of course.

and if you do happen to get placed give yourself a good month to solidify the ITA because believe it or not it's your benchmark that follows you throughout as far as wanting it! put the time in know it inside and out and give yourself the best chance to succeed.!. its long and probably a lot of things you have or have not seen before.

ITA was the most difficult exam we wrote, just because of the huge range of material. It's the test for which an aviation background is the most useful, and even then it's hours and hours you'd need to revise to nail it.

It's been mentioned on other threads, but worth reiterating here too.
Put in every bit of effort you can to do as well as you can in the ITA exam. Even though the pass mark is 80%, you don't want to be aiming for 80%. You want something in the high 90's. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Everybody in the unit will know how well you passed. You want them to be thinking of you as that person that scored something like 97%, not 81%.
From my experience, your instructors will think highly of you if you score high. It's a lot of work, as there is an incredible amount of material to cover, but it's worth the price of the effort!
