YWG March 12 testing

Hello all,

I did my online test last week and got my invite the next day for the in-person assessment for YWG on March 12. I was just wondering if anyone else here might be going to it?

I've read a lot on these boards and there is some great information. But just a few more questions i didnt find answers to.

Are all the sections of the test multiple choice? If not, what section and what style of answer is needed.

I read that the audio section is negative marking scheme. Is this true? Is this the only section that uses this method?

Im sure I will have more questions, but right now im just looking for the format.

Thanks :D

Hello Bobbert,

Most of the tests are multiple choice but don't let that fool you. From what I remember, there was only one test which was a mix of multiple choice and short answers where you would have to actually write the down the value of an easy mental math problem. But even during that test, most of it was multiple choice.

As for the "listening" test, yes, indeed it was a negative marking scheme. So only jock down the answers you are sure of. What's really tricky about this one is that you aren't given the questions till after you heard the recording.

Good luck with your in person-assessment. People may say that there's no real but I like to think that you can warm yourself up beforehand and gain confidence before this day. According to me, this has to be where they remove the most candidates from the selection so bring your A game.

Thanks Snugglepush!

I am doing some online aptitude tests for practice and starting to feel more comfortable.

I feel pretty comfortable on the math, spacial reasoning and w-sim part.

The listening part is what scares me the most. In university, the only negative marking scheme test that i took was Accounting 101. I passed but didnt like the format.

The general knowledge part hopefully is not to bad, but this area can be vague in my opinion. What is considered "general knowledge"? I find it really depends on the person. I know someone that knows all the countries in the world and where they are. He doesn't need this for work and it's not one of his hobbies. BUT he can't name all the planets in the solar system.

The general knowledge section is fairly wide and there is nothing you can really do to prepare except be well rested. I found most of the questions very easy but I tend to do well with general knowledge.

The only real advice I can give is do not get discouraged after you do the listening exam. I believe I only answered maybe 4-6 questions and I thought I completely bombed that section, yet here I am waiting for the results of my final interview. It can be easy to think you did terrible and in doing so it might impact how you do the rest of the exams. Think positive and keep going.

The general knowledge is broad and fairly simple. Quiz applications on your phones are probably a fun and easy way to try to prepare for it because it's so broad. I remember having to going from naming a few countries to having to name the composer of the Nutcracker which is easy, right. Good rest will help you eliminate the obvious wrong answers.

As for the listening test, don't worry about it... From my assessment session, I think people answered on average 2-3 questions and some still got through. I personally answered 7 because I was very attentive and jocked down notes I was certain there would be questions on. Then you just have to find those questions in the little time you have haha. Think of it more as a fun experience then something stressful, you'll see that it's going to be a much more pleasant experience this way!

Let me know how it went afterwards!

Get lots of rest tonight. I didn't find any of the sections to be especially difficult, but it's a long set of tests and it is very tiring. For material preparation, as long as you know the W-SIM (no excuse to no ace this section as it's incredibly similar to the practice material provided) then you are as ready as you will be.

Good luck!

Well,

The test has been written. Everyone is quite right when they say that you can't really prepare for it. The only thing you can really prepare for is the W-Sim.

If anything, the only part that I think could fail me would be the audio section. I answered only 8 questions. But I did it with 90%+ certainty.

All other sections I was able to get to the end of them with near certainty (I hope) except for the spacial reasoning for which I was 2 questions shy and the fill in the brackets section that I left also 2 behind. I did not just write down any answer when there were only seconds left. But quite a few people that I spoke to did.

Some sections were really fun. For the pattern recognition part, after a quarter of the questions, I started to see numbers and not symbols.

I guess the only issue I see with the test is that, there were a few people that it was their 2nd time writing the test, and they said that the entire thing had not changed, not even the questions from the last time they wrote it.
Did anyone else experience this too?

As for the experience of writing the test, apart from the audio part, I found it quite fun.

Now to wait 2 weeks for the results.

Good luck with the results. I had written the test prior to finally passing it this time around and I do not think it provided any benefit. The only real benefit I found was that I knew what to expect, but that had no bearing on whether I remember the questions or not.

I only completed 4-6 questions on audio and I was just green lighted to enter the training pool.

Let us know how you did.
