Anyone trained for ATC in their mid to late 30s?
Just wondering if anyone has started ATC training in their mid to late 30s. I am curious if other people have had the opportunity to pursue this career in this age group. I'm right there and I'm in the IFR pool and I'm starting to think about what NavCan might be thinking of when reviewing my potential as a candidate. Might I be passed over because I have fewer years left to offer? Let me know of your experience if you've been where I am?

When my current IFR class started we had two people between 33-35, so it is definitely possible to be slotted on course in this age range.

Ive seen people in their mid to later 40's train for ATC. Nav Canada will not care about your age and nor should you!

I was late 30s when I started and I checked out. It can be done. So long as you have the right frame of mind and aptitude, age is not a factor.

How's your IFR course going? How deep into it are you? How many were on the course and have any been CT-ed yet? And if so, for what reason?

So far so good! We are coming up on 3 months into the course so I would say we're just about half way through our Generic (course length can vary greatly). We started with 8 and we lost one after the first written exam, though I don't feel like they would have been successful once the sim portion of the course actually ramped up. I feel like everyone else is doing really well and barring anything crazy happening we should all finish Generic early April.chobs wrote:To get off topic slightly...s1yx wrote:When my current IFR class started we had two people between 33-35, so it is definitely possible to be slotted on course in this age range.

Thanks, good luck going forward. I PM-ed you some additional questions if you don't mind.s1yx wrote:So far so good! Well that's great to hear. I myself am not conflicted about potentially starting in this career at this age, but wondering if NavCan was. I hear in the US they don't accept anyone after the age of 31, not sure if that's true or not. Thanks all!

That is true. Don't worry nfpeanut, I'm a 34 year old on a generic IFR course at the moment. If you've got what it takes, Nav Canada will give you a shot.nfpeanut wrote:Well that's great to hear.
