What exactly does this phrase mean? According to the controller it seems to mean "you can change frequency without asking me", because when we asked him if we could change freq for landing at our destination he said "I already cleared you enroute". (We were still well inside class C when he cleared us direct to our destination, along with the "cleared enroute" phrase, but at no time did he say "radar services terminated" unless I missed it).
Is this assumption correct? It would be nice to know when I'm allowed to change frequency. Am I supposed to just change frequency myself when leaving the class C if ATC doesn't tell me anything? I didn't think that was permitted/recommended.
Cleared enroute?

Re: Cleared enroute?
"Cleared Enroute" is my/our abbreviated way of saying "cleared en route frequencies". You are authorized at that time to switch. As for termination of radar service, was your destination in uncontrolled or controlled airspace (ie: did you have an approach clx or been cleared out of controlled airspace)?CpnCrunch wrote:What exactly does this phrase mean? Re: Cleared enroute?
Ok, thanks. We were leaving controlled airspace, so that makes sense. I was just a little confused because I haven't come across that terminology before (they generally say "radar services terminated" when leaving controlled airspace).kevenv wrote:

If you don't have an approach clearance you should have been told radar service terminated. I will generally use "radar service terminated, cleared enroute (frequencies)".CpnCrunch wrote:Ok, thanks.
