Advise for ct'd students from the atc course

Post by cinarm »

What advise would be helpful for anyone who had been ct'd and would like further employment with the company and possibly the chance for a re-course?

Cease training, in other words your training as an ATC or FSS didn't work out.

I wouldn't say scary, but patience will be your best friend.

I've never heard of this happening, nor have I heard discussion of it, in the FSS world.

As for the original question. Some ATC trainees take a shot at the FSS world with the intention of getting more aviation experience and then trying ATC again in the future.

Yawn! Another one with full insight. These opinions usually come from the other side or from someone who has been CTd.

There is no proof that this exists within either NAV Canada or NATS (my previous). Training is documented and a trainee receives progress reports and regular updates from the OJIs. You are either doing well or you aren't. In 19 years I could count on one hand the number of students that have been CT'd for anything other than not being able to perform the job to the level required. Those that weren't had nothing to do with the amount of overtime available.

I completely agree. With the amount of people involved in training, it is impossible for 1 OJI to CT a trainee. So unless there was a conspiracy in an entire unit, or specialty (which would become clear pretty quickly) which involved falsified training records that showed poor performance that didn't exist in order to satisfy the training team (which consists of several people not in the unit or specialty) it would be all but impossible.

I agree with the above posters. So many specialties (at least in the YYZ ACC) are so desperate for manpower (or womanpower for that matter) that a CT results from either an innability to do the job or a severely crippling character flaw.

To OP as someone not yet CT'd but on the fringe, if you find the magic formula, PM me.
