Question for the staff at Saskkatoon SK, FSS and Tower

Post by JonYTS »

Based on the CFS on Foreflight, it says the while the Tower is open, Saskatoon radio transfers from Radio to Tower, then FSS takes care of "The Pas/Flin Flon" RAAS sites. Then, there's a half hour period before The Pass/Flin Flon RAAS close up, and Saskatoon Radio opens when the tower closes. I'm pretty certain that the tower is operated solely by VFR trained controllers, and there are rotations between day shift and night shift for the FSS staff.

I'm just curious to know how the airport operates.

That's right.

Tower is open during the day only, currently from 0645 til 2245 local time. These are VFR controllers, as you said, and are not the same staff as the FSS.

When the tower closes, the FSS personnel takes over at the airport, (providing FSS service, not control) from 2245 lcl til 0645 lcl. During the day, the FSS also provides RAAS service at Flin Flon and The Pas, from 8am til 8pm.
