In AIM Met 1.2.7 there is reference to this "AU" service that can provide alt. setting and wind for IFR approaches. It mentions it is available at a few "locations"; does anyone know where this is offered? This came up in a question about what constitutes legal "ground visibility" for determining IFR takeoff visibility, as in does AWOS rule if lower than the most recent METAR. It seems to be offered via some AWOS broadcasts but only talks about the alt. setting and not visibility.
Sometimes I think Navcanada's AIM is to confuse.
"AU" Weather Services; where is this offered? Not ok for visibility?

The AIM is not a Nav Canada publication.dougj wrote:Sometimes I think Navcanada's AIM is to confuse.

Approach Unicom. The AIM is a TC publication.

We used to have one of those for a bit at my site. It's similar to an AWOS in that it's automatic and broadcasts on a VGM, but the main difference is an AWOS gives a complete weather report updated at regular intervals, an AU only puts out the wind and altimeter setting.
