Volunteer

Post by David1991 »

Hey Guys,

I finished all my licenses 2 years ago and for personal reasons didn't go into the industry right away. What I am looking into now is some sort of volunteer flying to get my hours. I know there are a lot of options for pilots who have access to an airplane but I don't. Is there any organization that does relief work or missions work that is willing to take a pilot with no experience and no aircraft? I know this is kind of out there but any guidance would be great! I have roughly 250 hours total.

Volunteering is a fantastic, rewarding endeavour, flying and non flying, and I have been richly rewarded by my experience in both avenues.

The key aspect is ones motivation, it should be all about the mission to be fulfilled, and nothing to do with the individual. This goes double for (overseas) missions flying, which I know a little about, enough to know it is extremely demanding -- far harder than normal commercial ops in many instances.

Reading your post, doing this "to get hours" -- isn't the best of motivation, and the missions orgs I'm aware of, are looking for substantially more experience than 250 hrs. (500 is a start)

Good luck.
