Recruiting process for ATC

Post by CJM »

Ive just applied throught the new application process and have decided I really want to pursue this after instructing for and few years and working in 703 also. Recently Ive been intimidated by stories about how difficult the assesment tests are. I think it was a company nammed SHL that used to the the assesment testing?.. anyway, does anyone have any applying experience stories they'd be willing to share, is it really as hard as some say??

I'm interrested also. I applied last week through the new process. Although they say that we'll get a result within 72 hours, i contacted them by email and we'll have an answer in 2 weeks.

I can't wait to get this answer since i'm so interrested in this job.

Good luck CJM !

I'm currently enrolled in IFR training at YYZ. I was accepted under the SHL process and wrote the NAVCanada version of the aptitude testing as a guinea pig if you will. The new aptitude test is very different from the SHL aptitude test. We didn't receive results for either test.

The NavCanada test didn't feel like anything you could really study for. Brush up on your math skills if you haven't used them in a while. Other than that, best of luck.

Hi Sean,

Could you please post some samples of the questions? Was there several different tests like the SHL testing, or one big test? Any cubes?

Thank you for any help!

Thanks Sean!

What kind of history? World, Canadian, or ATC?

Thanks again!

Has anyone received an answer from Nav Canada following the cognitive ability test in the new NavCan process ?

I completed it on october 11th and i notice that it says Completed - 2008-10-20 on their web site... which is yesterday. strange isn't it ? Also, it says that i'll get a reply within 72 hours, but i contacted Nav Canada which told me that the results will be available in 2 weeks.

So, i wonder if anyone has received an answer or if everyone who applied is still waiting like me... ;)

I applied on the 11th, received a pass on both online tests, but haven't received a written test invitation either.

That's what i meant... I have a pass on both test (the green check) but nothing new yet !

I have completed both tests on 11th, but the top section of the site says that i have completed the personnality test on 11th, and the cognitive on the 20th. Which is strange. Is that the same for you ?

What did you apply for (FSS, IFR, VFR) ?

World History as I remember

There was one guy in our course who was a history major. I don't think any of us did overly well aside from him.

Vince,

I have green circles both with completion dates of 2008-10-11.

IFR was my preference, but I think they decide what stream you end up in based on testing results.

Sean,

Any rumors around yyz as to when the next course is?

Thanks

Rumour around yyz is that all ab initio training will be suspended until 2010 due to the airspace restructuring project.

I was accepted into the candidate pool in June. Does anyone know if there have been any course starts since that time? Has anyone in the candidate pool had a call for a course recently?

That would be crappy for those living in Ontario who are in the pool if there are no ab initio courses until 2010, candidacy would lapse. I hope the same isn't happening at other centres.

I appreciate any info.

Our course started June 16th and there is a course behind us that just started October 6th. No rumors from legitimate sources at this time. I'll update if I hear anything.

It seems that Nav Canada changed their application design a bit... Actually, they moved some steps into block 1 and block 2...

Did you notice the same thing ?

Still no news after the cognitive ability test though...

I've also applied through the new system. Completed the personality test and cognitive test on the 11th and 15th, green lights on both. Strange that you haven't heard anything back as they said two weeks..

Well, they answered me that: "We received your tests and your results will be reviewed within the next 2 weeks."

And i got this reply on oct 16. So that gives them 'till about oct 30.

I just noticed that Nav Canada will be having assessments this November in Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton.

I know this is a new hiring system, so everyone is out of the loop. But, does anybody know if Nav Canada will bother contacting applicants outside of these cities to attend this November assessment?

I wouldn't mind traveling a bit just to save some time.

You've seen the assessments dates on the web site, or on the right side of the careers system ?

Cause i have nothing on the career system... I might be interrested in going to toronto even if i'm not from the area !
