First flight after engine overhaul in class c
What would the proper request from the tower at cybw be if I wanted to stay close to the field but not do touch and goes. Some say I should work engine fairly hard for an hour. Any sugestions ?

Telephone the tower ahead of time to explain and ask what they suggest?

Some say? I hope you aren't planning on breaking in your engine on the basis of "some say". If it's a Lycoming, check out the first section of this pdf:iflyoffgrass wrote:Some say I should work engine fairly hard for an hour. Any sugestions ?

Continental has similar information if you ask them for it.
As for staying close to the field, if you really want to do that (but why?) just call them up and ask them for somewhere you can do racetracks where you won't be in the way.

Definitely call the tower. No answer here would take into account weather/traffic/other issues that will arise at the time of flight.

Just tell the tower or terminal that you are breaking in a new engine and you need to stay xx miles from the airport. We deal with it quite a bit. Never an issue on our side.
