Re: Special VFR
I just commented tongue and cheek. Just reading posts lately and when referring to a Flight Service Specialist, the term Specialist is never (or rarely) used.
Just kinda chuckling as MF operator, FS staffer, FS operator, FS agent, FSS controller etc. are always used. Maybe I'm just having an identity crisis is all.

Yea, this was pretty standard when I was working. We'd regularly have helicopters inbound from the west during IMC, and they'd happily (ok, maybe not happily) loiter 5 miles out waiting for the IFR aircraft to land. Takes about 5 seconds to politely request they remain clear of the extended runway centerline due to the traffic. I don't remember if it was specifically written into procedures or not (I've been out for 4 years), but it's common sense regardless. It was nice to see after we got radar that they actually did this too, and didn't cheat on the 5 mile zone either.av8tor604 wrote:don't you think it is responsibility of pilot and maybe even MF operator to remind VFR pilot to REMAIN CLEAR OF THE APPROACH AREA of the IFR aircraft inbound?
