The role:

Reporting to the Senior Leader, Maintenanace, this role is responsible for and manages all Line and Heavy maintenance, aircraft planning, aircraft aquisition, maintenance control/defect control, and technical dispatch. The Maintenance Manager manages all contract requirements in Canada and internationally including Statement of Work (SOW) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs), the shared service with the WestJet Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO), and other Aircraft Maintenance Organzations contracted to Swoop. This position liasises with the Component Repair and Overhaul vendors and manages Class 1 assists such as Engines, Landing Gear, and APU.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for all maintenance completed on Swoop aircraft being conducted in a safe manner that complies with the requirement of the approved Maintenance Program and the CAR.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and guidance to ensure operational requirements are consistently met with Swoop’s heavy maintenance providers and ensure maintenance is completed to the highest level of standards; Liaise and coordinate with AMOs for all aircraft acquisitions (including per-delivery modification and STC installations)
Coordinate and manage maintenance requirements with Swoop stakeholders including Swoop OCC
Ensure progressive and consistent performance management techniques are developed and maintained as well as system(s) to track the performance and financial information related to maintenance providers
Take accountability for the results of internal/external technical audits, ensuring corrective actions as required
Create and manage budgets for the work accomplished by maintenance providers; Negotiate costs with vendors, suppliers and Boeing
Coordinate and manage planned work carried out by AMO maintenance providers; Manage Open Defect Reports after the final work statement is prepared with the maintenance providers
Ensure correction of all defects and the completion of planned maintenance tasks in a timely/acceptable manner
Promote a safe workplace environment through active involvement with AQD/SMS audits, reported events, and investigative processes, ensuring implementation of corrective actions as required
Cooperate with Procurement to establish contracts regarding proposals from vendors, suppliers and Boeing
Liaise with Maintenance Control, Planning, and AMOs regarding purchasing and materials as required

Professional Experience & Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to coach and lead employees
A minimum of 10 years experience as a licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer working in maintenance of Transport Category Aircraft – knowledge and experience on the Boeing 737-800 is preferred
A minimum of 5 years experience managing maintenance contracts and/or management function within an AMO
Must have a current Transport Canada license
Knowledge of CARS, maintenance regulations and standards established by Transport Canada
General knowledge of Human Resource practices ie: Ability Management and Performance Management
Strong computer skills using various maintenance programs and Microsoft Office Applications
Excellent communication and organizational skills
A minimum of 10-15 years directly relevant experience in a similar function at low-cost airline environment
Skills and experience in Transport Category Aircraft, preferably Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with direct oversight in all technical aspects of the requirement of a CAR 705 Air Operator and CAR 573 Aircraft Maintenance Organization
Demonstrated track record of leading teams in aircraft maintenance working with AMOs and contracts, technical dispatch, defect control and rectification and maintenance control
Desire and ability to make a significant impact, both by playing a strategic role and taking a “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude when necessary to make things happen
Demonstrated ability to quickly build strong and lasting internal relationships to work collaboratively in a complex and fast-paced environment
A positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
Willingness and passion for “wearing multiple hats” to support the team
Highly motivated, energetic and goal-oriented with the ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
The ability to work in Canada
The ability to obtain a RAIC


Recognized Diploma at a College/Technical School
AME license
Canadian passport or equivalent
Boeing 737-800 Endorsement or equivalent experience
Drivers licence
