These calculations have already been done. Your trying to split hairs. Heres a simple rule. If a needle is in the yellow to hover in ground effect. Your either over gross, or outside the performance chart. Its that simple. 10% in jet buggy may be 320lbs, but if you fly a jet buggy off the torque gauge or what it "will do" your probably over gross, or outside the suggested performance charts.

The difference between aircraft is simple. Whats the acceptable error in the gauge. If an aircraft is lifting to much or too little, its probably a gauge error.

Better yet, maybe you should start weighing everything that goes into your aircraft and get familiar with the performance charts. A reasonable pilot as defined by TC/FAA should have no problems, if they stick to the charts / gross weight.
