WestCoast Wild Adventures Ltd was created as an Air Taxi business in 1999. I love flying Floats, so I created my own unique lifestyle in Ucluelet on the Real WestCoast. For 20 years it was a one plane, one pilot and one flight follower (Mom and Pop) operation. I now have another pilot as it’s gotten quite busy from March to October. November to February is my holiday time, one Pilot can handle the flying.
WestCoast Wild Adventures Air Taxi comes complete with a Transport Canada Air Operator Certificate 9515 based out of CAN3 (Ucluelet Water Drome Base) along with the Company Operations Manual with all the updated Transport Canada forms to operate the business. As well as all the manuals required. These are also all downloaded on the in-dash ipad onboard C-GEAE.

WestCoast Wild does Department of Fisheries and Oceans contracts for charters and surveys. Starting the end of February we do Herring Spawn Assessments usually about 30 hours. Starting in June till the end of September we do CREEL surveys, counting Sport fishing boats. These are 4-hour surveys off shore, two times a week, about 120 hours. We also have a contract with the Ucluelet First Nations for a twice monthly 4-hour off shore Whale Survey, about 100 hours a year. We do all the DFO Seal and Sea Lion surveys along the entire 17,000 kilometers of BC coast line. It takes us 5 years to complete a Seal Survey, we can only do each section at low tides in the summer and are starting our 4 th go around this year. These contracts can be from 60 hours to over a 100-hours a year depending on the sections we do. We also fly swimmers into river mouths to count the Salmon in Sept. till November. We have also done Species at Risk Charters, Blue Shark Surveys, Basking Shark Surveys, Turtle Surveys as well as Sea Otter surveys. We have also hunted and recovered a number of Satellite Seal tags that have drifter into amazing places.
Working with these dedicated and knowledgeable scientists has been a real privilege.
Tourism is growing rapidly in Ucluelet. We have a number of options for personalized tours from ½ hour to all day extravaganzas. WestCoast Wild has a Hot Springs Park Permit for up to two trips a day. Della Falls, Cougar Annie’s Garden, Cape Beale and Pachina Lighthouses, WestCoast Trail, Broken Group of Island are all popular. But tourists want to see wildlife, luckily we work with the local whale watchers with our Marine VHF radio and have insight from our DFO surveys. It is easy for us to find the quarry. Seeing the whole whales while its under the water from the air is a much better experience than seeing what’s above the water from a boat. We also fly to Telegraph Harbour for Killer Whale tours as well as Grizzle Bear Tours in the fall when they are gorging on Salmon. U'mista Cultural Center in Alert Bay is another popular destination.
We also do charters to the famous Buchart Gardens in Brentwood Bay in Victoria. Bamfield and Port Renfrew are becoming more popular. We do charters for people hiking the WestCoast Trail, Nootka Trail, Wild Side Trail and a number of other isolated hiking destinations. We also charter to Commercial Fishermen, Loggers as well as commercial and government officials to any place a Floatplane can land safely.
