Good time to go to Jazz?

Post by Mclovin »

Ok so with all this talk about recession and economic turmoil, is going to Jazz at this time a good move. I have completed the interview, sim, and medical, so just waiting for a phone call. However with rumours on the news, talking to people, and posts on this board seems like not a great time to be the low man on the seniority list.

If anyone has an advice, opinions please post em. I would like to get some decent insight before I make a big decision. Thanks Guys!

You won't be low man for very long. In fact you'll move up pretty quick. Don't quote me be I'm pretty sure they'll be hiring a bunch more pilots every month for at least the next year. They're loosing alot of guys and have to replace them.

You have bigger problems than seniority issues... Like how you will survive on a shitty salary...

There's enough time off to have a few sidelines.

But you shouldn't have to get a second job to survive.... sad reality.

Better now than in a few years. Get a number and enjoy the ride up the juniority list. I have been at Jazz for less than a year and have about 200 below me on the list already. Also the shitty salary is (A BIT) easier to take when you are flipping through the inflight entertainment with your remote while seated in a lie flat bed on a 777 on your way to China or Australia for $29.

Dude, didnt you just get laid off? Your anti-perimeter and anti-jazz posts are getting old. You'd be much better off putting your efforts into finding a new job than wasting your time here pissing in other people's sandbox.

Mclovin,

I know exactly how you feel. I just got the call from Jazz a few days back. Not the easiest of decisions, but I decided to accept. I could have stayed where Im at made some good money and enjoyed job security. I know a lot of people will try to discourage you and tell you not to go, but you have to do what you think is best for yourself.

This whole industry is risky and no matter what you do, its a crap shoot. You could go to Jazz and end up getting laid off, or, you can stay where youre at now and be kicking yourself in the a$$ later when things slow down saying "why didn't I take the job!"

There may be a recession on the way, but that's the nature of our economy. The Canadian sector is still going strong, and it will take a few months before things slow down up here. Also, the aviation industry tends to lag the economy, so things arent going to be coming to a crashing halt.

Jazz will be hiring a minimum of 16-20+ pilots per month for the foreseeable future. By going in now, your seniority will climb fairly quickly and it wont be long before youre off reserve and have somewhat of a decent schedule.

Whatever you decide, just dont burn a bridge at your current company. Leave on good terms so that if you are ever laid off, you'd stand a chance of getting your old job back.

Thanks C-HRIS for that, I decided to take the job and enjoy the ride. I think I would be kicking myself down the road for not taking the job. And by the way I think I know who you are met you at sim in YVR in December. We have a mutual friend over at Perimeter. So looks like I'll be seein you February 18th in YYZ. Congrats!

See its stupid ass things like this that piss me off. I hesitated on coming to Jazz myself, it was actually my wife that convinced me by saying one line.

If you don't like it you can always go back to what you are doing!!

I haven't looked back.

As for the quote, You would see if you ever get on at a real company like Jazz or AC that we can fly to Shanghai and stay in a 5 star hotel for fack all, its part of the travel perks.

So while I spend 50 bucks round trip to be on a 777 in business, than staying at the hiltons in paris for fack all I'll think, yup my job sucks, I should have stayed flying up north freezing my ass off, putting on wing covers, de-icing/fueling my own airplane just for that extra 10K a year.

PLS

Hope your wife has a nice pention cause she'll be supporting your ass through out retirment. Oh and make sure your kids are able to get a scholarship cause there is no way your putting them through university. and if you can make it one more year with your pilot car i.e. 20 year old accord then you should be able to buy that $2500 indian import BRAND NEW. It's almost as if it were made for JAZZ pilots.

I'd be alot more worried about toilet paper than 777's

And if you only loose $10000 on your annual salarie you should have waited and become a captian in the north. It would have been half too 2/3rd's of what you were making.
