Worth the move?

Re: Worth the move?
By no means are those wages justified. Somewhere like Georgian pays out 57000 with per diems and 11 GDOs for starting left seat on 1900 (704). Starting right seat jazz sounds like it's 45000 and 12+ GDOs. That extra day adds value, say another $4000/year (36*9*12). So that's 49000 and then pension (wouldn't really see unless staying long haul). Perhaps Georgian might be better in the short run as it will pay more?
Re: Worth the move?
Georgian over Jazz? That would be a serious error in career management. Those who have come to Jazz with intentions of going elsewhere have done so with remarkable success. Those who chose to stay have enjoyed great working conditions and benefits.

Upgrades still looking around 5 years?
Wouldn't the profit share and pension make up for the lower wages? Plus in contrast to say 11 GDOs, having 12-14/month adds value to your paycheck as well?
Stop trying to justify poor wages and the race to the bottom.
The race to the bottom is not for me, you can be the winner.

Heard thru the grapevine late last week that Jazz is planning a new hire course every month starting in September.

Re: Worth the move?
Jazz is short 80 pilots system wide, hence the highest blocking average ever. This New Busines Model our VPFO has informed us about guarantees minimum number of crews and maximum days of work during the 2 nicest months of the year!
We can thank those who help this new model succeed by picking up WDOS...but hey, that's what our competitors do, so why not!

How many will Jazz hire going forward into this fall/winter, and how many are in each new gs course?flyer 1492 wrote:Heard thru the grapevine late last week that Jazz is planning a new hire course every month starting in September.
Do all new hires end up on reserve to start once online?

Re: Worth the move?
Jazz ground schools will continue July thru October. AC has informed Jazz the requirements for more pilots in July and in the fall.
Reserve isn't so bad...unless you are a commuter. However, you will most likely be called to fly or be able to pick up flying in open so you don't have to worry about sitting in a hotel or crash pad waiting to work!

Re: Worth the move?
And you likely won't be on reserve more than a month with all the upgrades/Air Canada movement. When I got hired I had 3 weeks of reserve, a month of crappy stand ups and then a regular schedule after that.

I know, you know that but perdiem is not a revenue, it's an expense!xlwing wrote:Somewhere like Georgian pays out 57000 with per diems
Unless you want it accounted into your income taxes (they do it in UK apparently)
Any job where you count on your perdiem to meet the ends, you have a serious budgeting or salary issue.

Re: Worth the move?
Loaded question depending on base and equipment but....
YQR, YXE, YEG, YMM, YQU, YLW, YKA YXS,YXJ, YYJ, YCD, PDX, SEA, YZF, YXT.
Classic does most of those except Sask, NWT and YMM.
Q400 Does more Sask, YZF, YMM, YEG. But they are expanding their routes continually.
RJ is more Domestic across the country than regional.

Re: Worth the move?
Are those all RJ overnights? Do the Dash's go down south?

Re: Worth the move?
IAH is a 705 overnight. I don't generally think of Houston TX as being in the eastern USA.
BWI, CLE, CMH and PIT are Classic Dash overnights while ATL and DCA are CRJ/705 only. BOS is mostly CRJ but historically has had some Classic overnights as well. JFK is currently a CRJ/705 standup.
The farthest south the Classic Dash goes in the east would be CMH/BWI. We did at one time do YYZ-RIC.
