Bases...

Post by baron_dude »

Hey,

Just wondering what bases they are hiring for this round? Is it even something that is known before you get hired?

Thanks

I was told at the interview that they were hiring for all bases. You draw your seniority on the second day of groundschool. Bases and equipment are assigned by seniority.

The majority of vacancies will be in YYC, with the introduction of the Q400 we could see spots open in every base

Latest bid shows vacancies are every base (except YHZ). Majority being in YYC, YYZ, and YVR. These positions will be offered internally first, then whatever is left will be available to new hires.

Interesting. So when you accept the job you really have no clue where you will be based?

That is correct Baron. Those applying will also know where they are NOT going to be based. IE Fort Nelson, Fort Mac, Fon du lac, Thompson, Tbay, or Shibogaboo. That is usually enough to keep the applications coming :smt040 Once your hired you can bid to move to one of the bases you KNEW about if you did not get it.

Interestingly enough, Air Canada works the same way...

Along with pretty much every other legacy carrier in the world that has multiple basses... What a crazy world we live in.

What would be the chances of getting YUL as a base for a new hire starting on the march 28th GS? good or bad?

I'd say quite good there are 18 DHC-8 spots and 2 RJ open in YUL

Bonne Chance!

Although there are vacancies at all bases (except YHZ) at the moment, you may not be given the choice in groundschool if they really need to get people online (i.e. YYC). However, put in your bid for the base you want, find a crash pad and/or commute for a month or two, do your job, and before you know it you'll be awarded a position back at the base you want to be. Good luck all...

Question:

I live near YWG, so how easy or difficult would it be to commute from there?

Thanks
